3.2 --> increase displacement?
Excuse my ignorance - i'm new to porsche....
Whats the largest size you can replace barrels and pistons to on a 3.2???
I'm trying to weigh up rebuilding mine, but bigger, or buying a 3.6 to rebuild...

You can install 100mm cylinders and you can install a factory 76.4mm crankshaft for 3.6l. You can also use an aftermarket crankshaft in the 80mm range. These are you possibilities. I'm not advocating one method over another. The 100mm cylinders may not be the best for longevity purposes.

The biggest easy bolt-on fit without machining is 98mm yielding a 3.4 displacement.
Without knowing your priorities and intentions it's not possible to recommend a path for you to take with all the pros & cons.
Just like I chose to install a good used 3.2 DME motor to replace my 3.0 CIS motor rather than rebuild it, many of my friends chose a good used 993 3.6 motor preferable to rebuilding their 3.2.

Take a look at what the total cost will be first. These engines are pretty expensive to build when you start looking at new cylinders and pistons. If you are going to up the displacement, you also need to look at some better heads so you won't be choking it. A good alternative is to just look at picking up a used 964 or 993 engine and doing a 3.6l swap.
