Good to hear from you again Snowman. As I understand it, Grant at Autohaus is saying the new tyre will be for a GT4 fitment so if it's a R888R it will be in the correct size. I'll probably go to 19" (or maybe even 18" with new callipers) wheels anyway and run R888R 265/305 if they'll fit, otherwise 235/295. I'll be trying to learn and drive the thing properly this year and aim to get closer to your times; though I suspect you'll stay the master.
Trofeo R's are probably a slick tyre compound and hence the deterioration.....and expense! They are made in the motorsport factory.
I bought the front cage but it's still in its rather large box.

Are the trofeos any good in the wet? Any of you speed freaks recommend a tyre for Targa Tasmania.
I used the Dunlop Sport Maxx race last year and they were pretty good but stupid expensive. The cups 2's are pretty hairy in the wet but cheaper. any thing else in a 20" you guys would suggest.

I have managed to get a set of 20" Trofeo R's for an event this weekend. I also ordered some new 19 rims (which should have been delivered last week but the freight company lost them) which will hopefully arrive tomorrow and a set of Toyo R888R's (295 and 235) for them. Hopefully I will have both to try on Saturday and I shall report. I think we are running the long circuit at Eastern Creek.

Step 1. The wheels finally arrived. Should be fitted with the R888R's tomorrow and I'll test fit Thursday.

I'm flying up to do the day in the 21st March - but I'll be in the EVO (6hr testing).

They look good Warrick - I presume they are 19's?

One day you'll have to chuck a set of Hoosier R7's on. After Bathurst on them I don't track mine on anything else now. It's a bit of a PITA either having to trailer the car there or else getting a mate to bring the 19's for me but they really make the car so nice to drive.

Hey Snowman, yes they are 19" by 11 and 8.5's. Had the Trofeo R's fitted yesterday as well as a test fit on the wheels with R888R's....see photos. The front wheels fit very well but I think I went a bit short on the machining of the rears with a 47 offset vs 50 OEM. They look like they might hit the guards but the car was not settled fully on its suspenders after jacking.

In PCNSW Hoosiers are classed as slicks so I won't run them competitively. We have our first supersprint tomorrow and I'll run the Trofeo's R first then change to the R888R's and see if they a) don't imping on bodywork and b) how they compare. I'll have driftbox data on both. If they bind at all I have them re-machined by 3-5mm. They clear the front calipers easily and the rear toe links OK. They are Koyas and for $2k delivered for custom machined to Porsche hole size and requested offsets they are good value for a lightish (10kg and 9.7kg) part-forged track wheel.

I am running the Lambo on Sunday for the start of the CAMS season events so it's a full weekend of motorsport for me and going with my daughter to the Adele concert on Saturday night.

I personally love the Trofeo R's. I tried MPSC, R888, AD08 & Trofeo's were the quickest based upon my data. However I also ran 245/35 Fronts and 295/30 rears, so that with 3.2 deg Fronts and 2.6 rears (still wasn't enough on drivers side for turn 1 at SMP) which helped the cause.

The time was made up in braking distances and mid corner speed. I got down to 1.46.4 at SMSP in my Cayman R so a '42 on Trofeo's sounds about right, I think I need to get one.

I ran the GT4 in the 1st PCNSW Supersprint of 2017 on Saturday. I ran 2nd in class 2 behind MC 968CS in his very well driven 997.1 GT3. I ran a 1:43.72 against his 1:43.36.
Here’s the lap.
That was on the first run of the day on a cool track with the new Trofeo R’s. The track lost some grip from then on, as it heated up later in the morning on a fairly hot day. There was some track interruption with an oil spill and I didn’t get to run the R88R’s till late morning when quite a bit of grip had gone out the surface. My best time on the Toyo’s on the 19” rims was 1:45.85.

A Driftbox plot of the two laps (with the Trofeo R's in Red) is attached. Next time out I'll run the R888R on 19" wheels in the first session (which is normally my fastest) and see if they're as good as the Trofeo R's. I did enjoy the slightly (4%) lower final drive gearing on the 19" wheels and thought that was a good thing. You can see the different shift points on the speed trace. The 19"s did not hit the body at all, though they look a bit naff so I'll probably take 5mm off them solely for appearance sake. Both front and rear tyres for both 20" and 19" showed no feathering or rolling on the outside edges with even wear across the whole tread width, so I've cured that understeer issue with a slightly altered driving style and the cambers the car now runs. BTW, the best times I've run on the MPSCupII's was a 1:47 flat so a good improvement there. With practice, I can now aim for the 1:42's on that track.

wow nice run and great time, I gotta try the trofeos one day, my best is a high 1.47 on cup 2's. I usually look forward to the first sprint of the year but my car is still getting a roll cage fitted

do you always run out that wide on turn 7, maybe I should try that next time if its quicker

Thanks for posting.

Just got a set of R888R for gt350. Need more time with the car. So used to the 996gt3 so couldn't really evaluate them at Road Atlanta. Seems like the might have some speed in them.

Hi Warwick that's awesome, and predictable, a couple of other guys improved 2-3 sec at EC (GP circuit) on tires alone.

what are your current specs on the car / modifications?
