M guy to 911 guy
Since 2003 I have been an M and X5 guy hard core. I ordered the new M4 at Encinitas, but before committing I answered the phone from a dude in OC. I went to Ficci Motors and the guy said "if you test drive this, you're going to be Porsche guy for good, there is no going back". I said "Nice Sales Pitch" ....
After 3 minutes and feeling Sport & Sport Plus, I pulled over and said "Chris... dude, I'm emotional right now and don't want to haggle numbers, I want to drive away today in this"..... Done.
I drove back to Solana Beach in a 2009 911 Carrera S Cabriolet ... spotless, garaged, one owner, beautiful leather, no dings, scratches, engine completely dust free.
I found this forum and after musing the veteran Porsche talk, I can truly say it is phuqing awesome to be part of this life now..... I am a freak for my rig. I think about her when im upstairs, I get pumpled at 11 at night going to McDonalds for fries, I drop the top in the AM and before sunset.
Life is good............. Alohaaaaa

I had a good 14 years with an M coupe- but it was never quite right. I tried cams headers and tune, a super charger and then finally an LS2 swap. Could never match up to my first true love, a red 944 turbo with some goodies.....This summer I picked up a black 930T. It may be just what i needed to get over my first true love!!

I'm the opposite.
Started with a 996 c2. Crashed it thanks for the rear bias and lack of Psm.
Picked up an e46 M3 as a beater and weekend drive car. It's fully loaded and much more forgiving.
I go on weekend group drives and rally frequently. I have seen two 993 crashes in blind corners that other cars such as m3 would have no problem negotiate through. Be careful out there.

I had a 2012 M3 which I adored, went to M school, fell in love with M4, traded M3 for a new M4, totaled it on Christmas day with 331 miles (not a typo, 331 miles, spun off an on ramp and crashed into wall--all my fault), couldn't find another M4 I liked, talked to some very knowledgeable Porsche guys, and just bought a CPO 2013 C2S with 789 miles (not a typo, 789). PDK, every pkg, Sport Chrono. Dark blue with luxor beige full leather. Delivery next week.
So, will I be happy?

Almost went M3
After deciding on a BMW (335i) 8 years ago instead of a Cayman S, I finally negotiated a 911 from my business partner (wife). So, I understand what your're going through! I can't wait to close the deal and get it delivered. (997.2). I'm sure it won't match my dearly departed 944S (when I was 20) and 928S4 (I LOVED that car - when I was 27), but memories are made to be made.
The other car in the running was 2013 M3, but I figured, and my wife agreed - we already have a family car.

a lot of guys are making the same move. are you on m3forum by any chance? the OT section has become the unofficial porsche subforum, lol
i just made the jump myself. started in a non-m e36 in 1996, went to an e46 m3 in 2002, picked up an e30 in 2008, but that where my love for bimmers and M-cars ended. lost my love for the new styling, car getting heavier and heavier thereby needing bigger and bigger motors, and the driving experience went from engaging to numbing.
congrats on the new ride! i just made the jump into a new-to-me 964 and share your excitement. enjoy in good health!
