Epic European Delivery Adventure!
To celebrate my 50th birthday, I decided to buy a GT3. Up to that point, I’d been a lurker on Rennlist and obsessively read the ED adventures of ‘TeamDrugMoney’ over and over. When I went to my dealer to finalized the purchase, I eagerly requested European Delivery. Only to find out the program had just recently been cancelled. Fast forward a few years to late 2013. I had ED scheduled on my 991 GT3. Finally! I’d done a lot of planning and research for that trip. I setup a driving simulator in my living room and ran a zillion laps of the ‘Ring as well as Spa. Then in the spring of 2014 the stop sale happened and my plans were ruined. Denied once again.
Last summer, I had planned to attend Scuderia Hanseat as well as the Porsche Sport Driving School at the 'Ring. Work got in the way and I wasn’t able to do either. So, this summer I was not to be denied. I sold my Cup car after Rennsport Reunion V, so this would be the year of me learning to become a better driver. I attended Porsche’s Camp4 in Finland in January. I’m also signed up for the Master’s course at Barber later this month. And the icing on the cake is the ‘Ring in June and August of this year. All of this was planned well before I decided to get the GT4. My partner-in-crime is attending all of these schools with me as well, and while we were finalizing plans one day, shortly after purchasing the GT4, he suggested I get ED and use the car for the schools while in Europe. Brilliant! The only thing to settle at this point was if I could get a suitable ED date or not.
I had PCNA's ED coordinator contact info from the prior attempt at ED, so I immediately called to inquire. As fate would have it, there was a cancellation a week prior to my June ‘Ring school. So perfect! I get a week to break-in the car. Now I just had to get the dealer on board. I ended up paying for ED myself, however, if you consider the cost of a rental car, track car rentals and school rentals, I’m actually coming out way ahead. Plus, I’ll get a lifetime of memories of doing it all in my very own car. Just so delighted that the stars have finally aligned in my favor! I certainly didn’t plan things very well. It all happened organically and somewhat backwards. But it's finally happening, and it’s coming up soon!

That's a fantastic story! Please let us know how it goes!
I too have thought about a ED of my own. I have had an opportunity to drive the ring in a very mild race car, but driving my own car there sometime sounds sublime.
If you ever make it down to LA, you are more than welcome to come pound laps on our motion simulators with laser scanned versions of the Ring anytime. We'd love to have you. It'd be worth it just to get the comparison afterward from you

Awesome story... when I put down my deposit over a year ago for my GT4 ED, it was also a birthday present to myself. In fact, I locked the order ON my birthday in January, just for good measure.
To clarify... are you beaching the car there in June for a couple of months, then coming back in August for the same car?
And I'm curious, what simulator did you set up? Any comments?

Nothing fancy - or even nice - on the driving sim. A buddy loaned me his rig. It's a cheap Sparco seat, a Logitek wheel and pedal set, all run thru a Sony Playstation. When you plop it down in front of a 55" flat panel, it's not bad!

How about some advice for where to eat in Stuttgart, on the way up to the 'Ring (think lunch), as well as the area around the 'Ring itself, and finally Spa.
I know all about the Hotel Am Tiergarten's Pistenklause and their steak on a stone. What else would you suggest as a must-dine destination?

We are picking up an Agate Boxster Spyder, and a GT Silver GT3RS (not mine)... We will most likely drive to the ring the evening of the 3rd.
