Assuming!! lol
I currently road race a 968 with NASA at places like Mid Ohio, Putnam Park, Road America etc. I am the regional champion 3 years running and runner up at the NASA Nationals two years running. A 968 is similar in performance to a non-S boxster. I am looking to move up a class or two in performance and have considered a 996 cup or a Cayman S pdk. A shop has a 2010 BS pdk that could be built into a race car and they feel it would be very fast and balanced. My budget is 40-50k and I tend to do most of my own maitenance. I also am a 1 man show for a race weekend with no help.

Mike,
I am building a 2012 Cayman 3.4 PDK will likely gravitate towards GTB1 pending the PCA rules discussion and ITC and NASA GTS3/4 depending on running weight.
IMO the DFI 3.4 Cayman and Boxster are identical. If you could, I would suggest getting a Cayman since you can then also run with the ITC/NASA folks.

I am looking for feedback as to whether with the right cage are the Boxster and Cayman going to be equivalent? Will a mid engine BS pdk at the same pwr to weight as a 996 cup car be faster? Things like that. I am running in GTS with NASA so everything is free...it is totally a pwr to weight class.

I am told...
That if you do a structural cage, the boxster is then substantially stiffer than a Cayman. But, of course, if you do a full cage on the Cayman....
My guess is that they are very similar.
But given your experience, you probably need to ask on the racing sections, and maybe target some experienced racers, maybe even the spec boxster folks who will have a ton of chassis experience.
Personally, when i get comfortable enough with my own car control to race, i'll let classes keep me out of the arms race.
