Default GT3 Steering Wheel - Recover

So my original steering wheel was not in horrible shape, but it definitely was not perfect. Coming from multiple BMW M steering wheels I liked the Alcantara fabric, but felt the Porsche wheel was way too thin. Ordered a recovered one from Dallas Custom Steering Wheel. Donald did a great job and turnaround time was only a few days plus shipping. I have no affiliation to the company. Figured I would post a before / after in case someone was looking for options. Nothing like a new steering wheel. Anytime I get a new to me car I put on a new steering wheel. Call me OCD, but hate thinking about where the previous persons hands have been. Plus I am in restoration mode with my new baby. Got Alcantara inserts for the GT2 seats coming soon.

My Options
1. Upgraded thickness - 1/8 (made a huge difference)
2. Red Stitching
3. Red Stripe

Looks like mine. I got a cheap sport wheel and had Dallas recover with thicker pad. However for track use I think I want a thinner wheel. I think you get better feel. So thinking of having it redone without the padding. Put my factory xpa wheel on the shelf.

What was the cost? The other alternative is the guy out in Poland ($220ish + the cost of shipping a wheel to him)

I prefer the thinner (OEM thickness) wheel. Purchased a core and had it redone over the winter. But I went with leather (all leather everywhere, alcantara wears poorly and I hate the plastic feel of the spokes!) and red stitching to match the rest of the interior. Very happy with the outcome.

wow...some very nice steering wheels. Cost was around $450 plus shipping and core wheel. I debated about going leather, but in the end I am happy with my choice. Once it wears I'll get it redone again. I'm in Florida so it's nice not to have a burning wheel to touch. Although with sun shade it doesn't get too hot. Still need more work to get my car how I want it, but that is what is great about modding. Your never done until you sell the car. Next upgrade will probably be some lightweight rims. Not a fan of the 31+ lb wheels. I have been looking at OZ wheels (great bang for your buck) although I have a ton more research to do.

Why did they extend those plastic parts out at 9 and 3 o'clock on the 997.2?

I guess for looks. But it feels awful in your hands. Couldn't wait to have it recovered. I was even considering swapping with a 997-1 wheel/airbag. But I am not 100% if it's plug n play. Although when I was at the factory in May I was able to sneak in the Museum work shop and there was a 997-2 Ruby RS with a 997-1 wheel...

I was just there in Sept! But I didn't get to sneak in there though..

I like that colour! Nice spot on the gen1 steering wheel..

What about direct swap on this ($$) for gen2?

RS 4.0 wheel is a direct swap with any 997-2. I dislike the shiny spokes though. Seem out of place with the rest of the interior. 991 cars also came with that wheel.

Dallas custom steering wheel did mine as well and increased thickness. Very happy with it.
