997.1 Turbo to 997.1 GT3?
Hey Guys,
Ive been thinking about selling my 997.1 Turbo and getting a GT3.
Not sure if I am going to miss the HP and TQ of the turbo on the transition. I also have never owned an all motor sports car, only turbo cars.
Has anyone made this transition? are you happy that you did?

my friend has a 997.1 and i have the -3
they are different cars, i'd have to ask what you use the cars for. if you need the rear seats, and you do a lot of DD type of driving, then the turbo is the way to go, can't beat it and the power. if you do more weekend/twisties/track work then the GT3 is your calling. The clutch on the turbo is MUCH easier to live with too, in traffic i want to just park my -3 and go get some coffee.
is there less power/torque? yeup. But the GT3 makes much better noises which IMHO makes up for it.

Thanks for the input, I dont daily drive my turbo and use it for the weekends cruising around town and then hitting the canyons here locally for some spirited driving and have no use for rear seats and such.
One of the other reasons I want to make the transfer is the sound of the GT3. I do have a full exhaust on the turbo but it doesn't give it the pure "Porsche" sound.

right, turbos even the GT2 make whoosh noises. You are actually going very very fast but it doesn't tell you that audibly. the GT3 even stock goes fast and sounds like it.

Assuming the back seats, AWD, and plusher ride don't matter, then only one question:
Do you like to dance on the pedals???
If heel and toe, rev matching, and running to redline give you a woody, then GO FOR IT. It really doesn't HAVE to matter how much time you spend on a track...

I owned a 997-1 turbo and got bored with it quickly. Too much of a GT cruiser for my taste. Sold it a little over a year later and picked up a 997-2 GT3. I've owned that car for a year now. It is amazing. Perfect car for me. Love every minute in it. As far as speed, if a turbo is faster, it ain't by much. From 60 to 100mph the 997-2 GT3 is actually quicker. And in the handling department the GT3 is sublime. Nothing comes even close.

I moved from a 997.1 Turbo to a 997.2 GT3.
I knew the GT3 is the car for me but after the first test drive. WOW! Now I understood why people say the Turbo is a bit boring. Way more of an event and a lot more fun driving the GT3. And the sound! Make the move and you will never look back.

Even looking at my 991 GT3 RS to be delivered in a week, my old 7.2 GT3 is the car I still think about. Best handling, superb driver connectivity, rewarding when driven right (rewards skill), and feels special every time.
Worth stepping up for.

Asked the same question a few years back. Went from a 997.1 TT to a 997.2 GT3. I spent some time and money trying to get the turbo to be like a GT3 and that was a good exercise for me to realize that you can't. I have made a ton of bad decisions in life, going from the TT to the GT3 redeems me for some of those

Looks like my turbo will be going up for sale soon.

Get a GT2 and put a Sharky exhaust on. Sounds great, handles like a GT and I can assure you very few cars on the road (including a GT3) are going to come close to pulling you from 60 - 100 or any other range of your choosing. Add a mild flash from a reputable provider and you are pushing 600 on hp and torque. Then you walk on said cars like you are in warp drive. Warning...learn to drive it and respect it before you go to the canyons. Comfortable on the road but front lip is very low and will limit you from most parking garages and some driveways (which is good in my opinion :-)
Honey, I know the grocery store is on the way and as much as I would really like to pick up your items on the way back from my country drive, you know I cannot get into those parking lots. Sorry.
