Bad AWS Occupancy Sensor - Require Entire Seat Replacement?
I am considering whether to purchase a 2007 997 C2S. The only problem revealed in the PPI was an airbag light that was apparently triggered by a faulty passenger-side occupancy sensor -- fault codes 8013 and 8A01 "Front left sensor implausible." Other than this, the car is in great shape (new tires, new brakes, recent service, 40k miles, 1 local owner).
The local dealer here in Los Angeles claims that the whole seat (electric but non-sport) needs to be replaced for $6-7k. After receiving that quote, we consulted three indy's. Two are unsure whether individual sensors can be replaced. The third seems to think that the issue can be cured by replacing the seat frame / base at $900.
My concern is that the issue will reappear after the deal closes. Does anyone else have any experience with this? Previous threads have discussed collision sensors (fault code 805A), but I haven't seen anything providing insight on this topic.
This is my first post. Thank you for your response.

dunno about how to replace, but when my AWS sensor issue showed up, I could never tell if it was truly related to the collision sensor or just a coincidence. it went away on its own after messing around in durametric (and that's when the collision sensor became my prime suspect)
However, (1) it could be a fluke, like mine. with durametric, I could see the values coming from the sensor and could see the signal and two-stage (kid/adult) variables. if yours is truly bad, you should see it with durametric
(2) an indy with PIWIS should be able to do the aws calibration. i called a local shop and they said 1/2 hour labor to do the calibration. my recollection of that conversation: they claimed they had done it a few times on cars with seat swaps but had never seen a truly bad sensor.
good luck...

Sorry - no solution to offer...but I would be concerned if not fixed, especially if you intend to carry a passenger. Is the car for sale at the dealer? If so, have them fix it before sale - I'm sure they don't want to sell something with faulty safety issues.

I had a similar problem and the dealer was able to cover a portion under warranty. Parts replaced:
Seat adjust. Mech. WEI 99752120224
Clio. 99965097340
Cable loom 99761268801
Labor was 5.4 hours
Total cost was $810.00
All parts were covered. I paid labor

Thanks Bricker. Hopefully the issue is resolved after Indy replaces parts today, but this is helpful in case the issue reappears in the future. How old was your vehicle when the dealership agreed to cover under warranty?

Mine is an 09 C2S and the warranty had run out about 8 months prior to the issue appearing. The car had 26k and I told the dealer parts dealing with safety should not be failing this early, it's a Porsche and the quality should be better than other lesser cars that don't have this type of issue. I guess Porsche provided the parts but would not cover the labor. I looked at my invoice again and the dealer gave me a 20% PCA discount on labor, so my cost was $663.00.

Borrow a seat to try it before you/they spend the dough on the fix?
Seems like a lot of cabbage for a "claims" thought.
My passenger air bag was the sensor in the bumper. $5oo. Done.

Porsche replaced the entire lower portion of my passenger seat under warranty many years ago when that sensor was doing odd things. They simply replace the base with your leather.
