997 LED DRL add-on- not swap question
I am thinking of adding on LED DRL such as the Phillips Daylight 8 LED units to my new-to-me 997.1.
I dont like the look of the swap-out-the-fog-light units from Depo or DelRay customs. I like the look of the original fog unit better.
Tried via dealer to make the mains come on with the key, but everything comes on.
has anyone here installed an aftermarket system, such as the Phillips units on their 997.1. I use these phillips on my VW, and I like them. nice and bright.

to make it a true DRL you need to take out the headlight switch and connect together two wires so the fogs come on when the ignition is on, that's the main thing whatever you replace the bulb with matter.

There is a thread over on 6speedonline.com titled "$2 DRL solution for fog lights". I don't want to cross post so you'll have to search for it. Basically it turns the fog lights into DRL's for a 997.1 by installing a diode between two pins on the back of the headlight switch inside the cabin. If you want the DRL's left on, turn the headlight switch to the HOME position. If you want them off, turn the headlight switch to the OFF position. It works with OEM bulb fog lights or aftermarket LED fog lights.

The ignition switch MOD also turns on the taillights, which is not a DRL per se. Might as well just turn on the switch to the first click and pull it out 1 click.
If you want to add separate led DRL lights, you can get a current sensing DRL module that you tie into wiring that has voltage when the car is running. It will energize the outputs only when the car is on and will keep them on for about 30 seconds after shutting the car off. You can only wire the outputs to led lights. If you want to wire them to any other type of light, you need to Eire in an SPDT relay so the module is just a trigger and the amperage comes from the battery or you'll fry the module.

The DRL mod using a resistor does not turn on the taillights. I did it. It will keep all lights off if the headlight switch is set to OFF. It activates ONLY the fog lights when the switch is set to HOME.
To the OP, any add on solution will be more invasive than the mod. Current sensing circuits, relays, etc will have you splicing wires in no time.
