557,764 Miles
There is an article in the June edition of Panorama that chronicles the driving life of a Porsche 996 Turbo.
The owner drove it everywhere and went on very, very long road trips. The car seemed to do well and the engine and the transmission held up.
It needed a water pump, windshield, right-front wishbone, left-front ball joint, cooling fans, three batteries, ABS vacuum hose, right-front ball joint, axle CV joint, oxygen sensor, belt tension pulley, idler pulley.
124 tires. 15 sets of front summer tires, 22 sets of rear summer tires, 11 sets of front winter tires, and 14 sets of rear winter tires.
The owner bought a new 991 Turbo S and looks to put as many miles on his new Turbo.
It certainly is a testimony of the extremes that these cars can be taken to.

There's a rennlist member who drives his 996 turbo like that. The last that I saw, he had over 300,000 miles on it.

I have not see a post by him since he reported having the engine out. I wonder if he got it back in the car and added another 150K+ miles then traded the car in for a 997 Turbo?

Member "T2" posted a while back his 996 Turbo -- don't quote me but I seem to recall it was a 2004 or 2005 Turbo S (the last year of the 996 Turbo S's, whatever year that was) was up to around 400K (402K IIRC) miles and he had the engine out to rebuild to address what he believed to be a worn engine, though he reported no real signs of the engine manifesting issues related to wear. The engine was ok just leaky. Upon teardown and inspection he reported no signs of any wear.

It is a great read.
^^ Now that is an accountants' viewpoint. Hilariously correct. If you pay for them 4 at a time, it doesn't hurt as much i guess. I have another toy where we absolutely NEVER look at over a year's worth of expenses and NEVER allow the books to fall into enemy hands (wifee).

Wow, this thing has more miles than my own W124, at 356,000 miles.
Reading about the maintenance issues the car had - "Master techs" couldn't track down a worn/broken subframe/suspension and instead recommended to replace shocks/struts and strut mounts? Couldn't they have tested or looked at the damn things before recommending they be replaced first?

Awesome! But that was a Mezger engine, which is known to be bulletproof, I can almost guarantee that the 991 Turbo S won't be as reliable and will cost a heck of a lot more to get to 500K miles!

My friend got 310,000 miles out of his 928S. Radiator, mufflers, shocks, lots of tires, water pump, 310,000 miles of routine maintenance and the engine was just worn out. Compression was down and only a rebuild would suffice, so he sold it to someone who was either refreshing it or parting it out.
