One is there is no way to know how much extra oil is present. The oil level system is not intended to measure the oil level above the max point only to accurately measure or report the oil level between the max and min lines. Above this all you see is the bar/segment above the max line is on and if the oil level is too low you get a warning.
Thus you do not know if the engine has just a fraction of a quart too much oil or a gallon too much oil.
Extra oil overtaxes the oil vapor separator which will almost certainly have more oil vapor being routed to the engine intake where it will then go into the chambers and be burned.
This extra load of oil vapor results in an increase in valve/chamber/piston, O2 sensor and even converter deposit build up. None of this is any good for the engine.
Last it signals the oil/filter service was not done properly since the only reason one of these engines gets overfilled is because the tech was not paying attention or is not aware of how much oil these engines require.
As an aside it is during the oil change operation the function of the e-level oil system is verified. The engine is warmed up to within the proper temp range, the oil is drained for a specific amount of time. Then the specified amount of oil is added to the engine and the e-level oil reading is taken to ensure the level reported agrees with the amount of oil added to the engine.
If an engine is overfillled with oil it calls into question the correctness of other aspects of the oil service. For instance was the right oil used? Was the drain plug sealing ring replaced? Was the drain plug torqued correctly? Was the filter changed? And so on.
