Dension announces latest iPod/Bluetooth integration!
DETAILS: Dension500S
Dension, the market leader in iPod/Bluetooth integration for fiber optic vehicles (Porsche, Audi, BMW, MB, others), has just released to us the latest and newest generation Dension product. The Dension 500S BT dual port, fiber optic integration system for iPod, Aux, USB and Bluetooth! This is the 4th generation Dension and now with superior bluetooth built in (on board)!
SPECIAL GROUP BUY
As the primary US distributor of the Dension line for Porsche (and other makes) we have inventory inbound now for the 500S BT and many pre-orders to fill when the units arrive in a few days.
To introduce the product, we are offering a short-term special discount for early purchasers. This unit has far more technology than the existing Gateway 500 and BTA1500, and far more compatibility and features. As a result, the price is more than earlier versions.
List: $695, which includes full iPod AND Bluetooth integration (must have PCM, check Dension website for compatibility), along with Aux and USB as well. The full kit is ready to install. This is the GW52M02 model, with dual fiber optic ports for cdc retention if desired.
Email us now for the special group buy. Be sure to indicate your vehicle make, model, year and head unit, if you have a cd changer (can be retained with this unit as well), and your address.
We will confirm back to you with discounted pricing details on this group buy immediately, and you will then be instructed on ordering details.
This will be a one-time offer, and ends on August 15, 2012. All those who have preordered are already included and will receive notice on this.
FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO NOW OWN A GATEWAY 500, and have PCM vehicles but did NOT buy the BTA1500, please READ:
The BTA1500 is phasing out of production. We have a limited number of BTA1500 units available. You must have a Gateway 500 with 6-dip switch configuration, and you must have a PCM vehicle with telephone buttons to add Bluetooth. We will offer our existing inventory of BTA units, and those inbound to us from Dension (the final production run) at a small discount so that you can now have Bluetooth if you did not get it originally. When they’re gone, they’re gone.
NOTE: If you have a CDR standard radio, you cannot integrate Bluetooth. PCM w/telephone buttons required. For the BTA deal, email us in advance with your vehicle year, make, model and head unit, and we will confirm pricing and ordering information.
Email should be sent to: info@bumperplugs.com
PLEASE reference RENNLIST when you inquire.
No dealers please.
Thank you.

Though pro install is recommended, this is a straight-forward install. With CDC it can reside right beside the changer. The inbound and outbound optical to the changer goes to one of the optical ports you see on the package. Included optical cables then connect the cdc to the second port of the Dension, so it is still accessible.
And with a cdc car, no dealer programming needed.

Current version is on our Links page, has been for a long while. Nothing else planned right now but we'll post it if there is any update.
The current Gateway 500 we've carried for years also retains the cdc...always has. This unit does as well (note the two optic ports on the side - one for the main loop, one for the cdc).
Email me anytime!

The new one is two generations jump in bluetooth chip technology. It was just released, so doubtful there are reports of issues at this point. It was beta tested with Blackberry, Droid and iPhone hardware, worked fine.
There are many features added in the menu functions, and far more adjustability settings in the new system. Having the bluetooth onboard the main system is a significant leap forward as is a smaller footprint to the main unit. We're still working on compiling most of this - but if you click the details link you will at least get the primary overview.
Some things we learned in initial use:
iPhones that did not ring on BT systems before, even though calls came through ok, now ring fine.
Contacts download instantaneously (obviously based on # of contacts)
Charging is full 1amp, vs 0.5 amp before (required booster to fully charge some hardware, no longer needed)
Much more advanced bluetooth chipset, wider compatibility and better clarity
Aux is now 3.5mm vs left/right rca, for aux inputs
USB on board as before, will run USB drives as before
Bottom line is: if you plan to have ipod and bluetooth, the old system (BTA) is going away. The current Gateway 500 is NOT going away - and will still be the choice for CDR systems. For PCM cars, w/telephone buttons, the new one is the next step.

Burning Brakes
So, like the OLD unit, does the new unit ALSO require telephone buttons on the head unit for the BT functionality to work?!?!?!

Does this have the ability to correctly (A2DP) stream music from a phone via bluetooth? I have the Tooki and the only way it can stream music is pretending it's a phone call with the associated appalling audio quality (probably close to AM radio).
Am I right in assuming a direct iPod or USB device would sound as good as a CD rather than bluetooth which is probably FM quaity at best?

The current 500 unit w/BTA allows A2DP streaming and has for years. But this new 500S BT has onboard bluetooth and a far more advanced chipset.
