Default ouch, clutch spring broke

Last wednesday, I noticed that my clutch would not engage smoothly. When I fully depressed the pedal, it would hesitate as I released it, kindof a lag before the pedal would come up. This was even with the ignition turned off. It made the car difficult to drive, because the clutch engaged really jerkily. Also, when I put the wood to the throttle, the clutch would slip. I took the car in to my friendly Porsche dealer who diagnosed a broken clutch spring. The entire clutch assembly had to be replaced. $2741 later, I was good to go with a new clutch. (no it is not covered under CPO)

Has anyone else had a similar issue?
Is it something about how I drive that might make this a more likely failure?

I think that's actually a good deal for a full clutch replacement.

Same thing happened to my 07 with 20k mi earlier this year. My dealer's Service Advisor indicated it was my responsibility because of clutch abuse. When I went to see the disassembled parts along with the new clutch and pressure plate, I brought along a pair of dial calipers to verify wear of the clutch disc. When I showed the Service Manager less than .020 in. of wear and no scoring on the flywheel, they agreed that it would be covered by CPO.

I would ask to see the parts removed and there should be blue spots (heat) only at the failed spring. If that's the case, it should be covered.

Wow--32,000 miles is hardly anything! Sometimes things happen inside of things!

I would pray for something like this to happen to my car...low mass flywheel replacement.

I think the exact same thing just happened to my car while driving home ...
The clutch releases up slowly and with a judder.

They charged me well over $2k for a new clutch assembly. when I grieved it, showing that the car had been driven quite sedately, they gave me about $300 back as a good will gesture. cest la vie

If you don't mind me asking, did the $2700 cover clutch disc, throw out bearing, pressure plate and labor? Thanks! (just gathering info for my future expenditures..)

Since replacing my clutch due to a failed pressure plate I have taken interest in the frequency of this type of failure. There seems to be a fair number of PP's failing with low miles. I'm beginning to think there is a design or materials problem.

Given the nature of this forum I think the sample size is too small to come to that conclusion.

Default Aftermarket warranty would have covered it...

It's interesting to note that an after market warranty, on top of the CPO, would have more likely covered this as it's NOT a normal wear and tear item like the clutch plates or brake pads. Comments anyone?

There are also complaints on other forums.

Nevertheless , you are right that it is a very small sampling.

I still smell trouble with these things. The diaphram spring in a pressure plate has no reason to lose its ability to clamp the disc to the flywheel , especially with such low miles. It's not really a wear item...the disc is supposed to do that.

As for the PP being warrantied...good luck with that , but I doubt it.
