Default Porsche 96 Turbo - Clutch

Just bought a Porsche 996 Turbo. The car slides a bit in the clutch when the car is in 5 or 6 gear and from low revs acceleration.

The car has driven 99000 km and is from 2000.

It has been minus degrees when it does it. And It seems to be dissapering or less once the car been warm up in tempature.

Do I need a new clutch or what caused it. Help

Are you sure it's the clutch slipping? RPM increase when it occurs?

sure it's not misfiring?

Danish Porsche Center says it the Clutch when they tested the car. What is Misfiring and how do you fix that.

I'm sure your shop knows what it's doing. Misfiring is when you don't have proper plug firing - it can feel like a clutch slipping sometimes - it's like the engine is hiccuping.

if the rpm increases quickly when it's happening it's the clutch slipping, or your ripping up ashphalt and the wheels are spinning!

A standard test of clutch slippage is with everything up to temperature take the car out where you have some room and light traffic and in 4th or 5th gear at around 2K RPMs floor the gas pedal and keep it floored as the RPMs and speed climb.

If RPMs increase without a corresponding increase in speed the clutch is slipping. (Assuming you are not on worn tires in the wet or in real cold weather or on snow/ice, etc. I note you say it has been "minus degrees" when you experience what could be clutch slippage so it may not be clutch slippage but tire (?) slippage.)

If the clutch is slipping there is no reason to retest and the clutch won't get better.

Time to book the car in for a new clutch and possibly a new flywheel if the tech believes it necessary.

If the clutch behaves at other times and shifting is without any drama you might just continue to drive the car normally -- but try to avoid using the car in such a way that manifests the sliding you refer to -- until warmer weather and better conditions then do the clutch test.

Or have the the clutch replaced. After all the Danish Porsche Center told you the behavior is the clutch when you bought the car.

Another point of view.. Your throw out bearing fork bushings might have wear and might now rotate smoothly in the freezing weather.

Over many years, a failing turbo clutch will start to slip in 5th and 6th gear and take some time/miles to slip in 3rd and 4th gear.. Wait it out till spring to see if it improves.. If it slips in 4th.. Save your monies and get a new clutch
