I wouldn't buy the car without seeing it in person (and driving it).

But you don't know what they paid for it.

He thinks I should pay for it; I think they should. Plus again there's the factor that I'm not there and I'm buying long distance maybe they don't want to sell the car to some one who's not going to Service it with them?

I was only mentioning KBB/NADA for what they paid the prior owner on trade-in. KBB/NADA Trade-in ranges from 38-42k That's why I believe that their cost is low on this car and I'm sticking to my guns.
The fact that they are a Porsche dealer makes negotiating even tougher. They have a very good idea of what they can get for the car and they will be willing to wait to get it. Prices for 996TTs have been rising lately and they know it. They feel time is on their side. And because they are located in the south they do not have to deal with the winter sports car sales lag like dealerships in the north.

IMHO you will not be able get them down on the price in the near future. You will have to wait them out, and chances are the car will sell for more than you currently want to pay. Other buyers will be willing to pay a little extra to buy a Porsche from a Porsche dealer.

I highly doubt that.

Find a middle ground. Have the dealership pay for labor. You pay for parts. Make sure they are charging you fair parts prices by comparing to places like Sunset Porsche or Suncoast Porsche.

Heck, tires alone are +$1,500. Drop ship the tires you like/want from Tire Rack and have them mount & balance.

Work ideas like that.

Ask a Rennlister to check the car out for you, and maybe drive it, and report. Send you pictures.

UPDATE: Thank you for all of the awesome replies!

Ok so I sent an email directly to the sales manager in a last ditch effort. In the mean time I had a friend of a friend in the area go to look at the car and reported back the car was as described. around 5pm the sales manager called me up and apologized for the sales person lack of follow top and communication. he said he'd like to do a deal if we could. Back and forth and we need up splitting the difference from my original offer and they included the annual service plus a inspection report on the car from when it was traded-in. So in the end I got the car I was looking for within budget.

Here it is:

Gorgeous! That's the identical twin of mine, down to the GT3 wheels.

You got a good deal, I paid more than that for mine, with almost exactly the same mileage.

You didn't say it was an X50. Great car. Great work getting it at a price you are happy with.

Whatever the final price was, it's worth every penny. Enjoy.

I'm glad you are happy with it, but IMO that's not a ppi from an independent. I could gen one of those up in 20 minutes...

I'm sure it's a great car and I wish you well, but I tend to the cynical side.

I'm sure he will be fine.
Glass is half full, right.

I otoh saw a CPO car that had all 4 corners f-ed up today.
That wasn't disclosed in the ad. I saw this and believed it. A dealer would never stretch the truth, right?

"This wonderful Porsche is one of the most sought after used vehicles on the market because it NEVER lets owners down."

I'm in the tristate area, so I should expect truth in advertising, right.

Congrats! I'm surprised it is even legal for a dealer to sell a car with stale dated tires. The US DOT calls it at six years for tire life, irrespective of mileage.
