Right, I know which one is which just trying to confirm which one people are using.. I read through many threads and it isn't clear the route most people went with.

997-424-010-00 = 997.1 GT3/Turbo/Carrera
997-424-010-91 = 997.2 GT3 w/aluminum bushings

Most threads in the past indicate that people have been using the .1 shifter, just curious if that is still the route people in this thread have taken.

For what it is worth, it seems that the 997.2 GT3 shifter costs less than buying the .1 shifter and adding the aftermarket aluminum bushing kit in case anyone else in the thread is considering these changes.

Correct the number ending in 91 is the one I am referring to, we use this shifter on all of our builds.

I'm using the 997-424-010-91 and it has been great for almost year now.
Combine it with the Cup Cables and fresh motor/trans mount for the "rifle bolt" feel.

I took the insulation off the stock cables and put it on the Cup ones and there's no annoying vibration or noise.

Thanks Mark

That is the one I am leaning towards also. I thought of maybe going with the standard 997 and getting the Function First kit, but for the money it is cheaper to go with 997.2 part and not have to fuss with it.

Did you drive it all with the cables without the insulation? That's a good tip. I've been waiting for a set of cup cables to come up. May end up just buying some new ones so I can get everything done while I'm out of commission.

I did the shifter first and liked the throw of it, however with worn motor and trans mounts, the car didn't like going into 3rd uphill under full acceleration.

Cup cables, 964rs motor mounts and stock 997 trans mount were done all at the same time while I had the trans back at Brian Copans' for a full rebuild.
I recommend those mods to anyone planning to keep theirs for a while that likes shifting, especially the trans refresh

The worn out box certainly didn't help shifting, but you can tell right away the difference in these cars with fresh motor and trans mounts. They are the only things keeping over 700lb from shifting around while you hustle the car.

What exactly did you transfer from the stock cables over to insulate noise? I've got Numeric cables installed by a shop and they're quite noisy!

I've got a set of Rennline solid mounts waiting to go in... I haven't been able to get under the car to check the condition of my trans mount; If it isn't destroyed I may just get the inserts to firm it up and fill in the empty spaces; if its ragged Im going to pick up the 997 mount.

Of note, that the 997.2 with aluminum bushings does not address ALL of the busings in the shifter, like the function first aftermarket bushing kit does.

still both are great options.

True, I think there is 1 or 2 bushing/bearing pieces that is different from the photos I've seen (and there isn't an option to buy just the pieces needed for the .2 GT3 kit that I have been able to find)... Is that difference really worth the $100 extra?

Do those things even make a difference in shift feel? I don't know and there have been exactly 0 reviews from 997.2 GT3 owners that I can find. For myself I choose the OEM engineered part for less money without having to disassemble/reassemble with aftermarket parts. To each their own

I sliced the black rubber sleeve off and pressed it over the larger Cup cables, then zip tied.

You could also probably do something creative with old rubber water hose to provide additional insulation, my personal favorite for putting over smaller hoses to prevent rub through/damage from rough surfaces.

I don't think you'll need anything more once you put on the sleeve from the stock cables.

I have a B&M shifter with the EVOMS Billet Shift Linkage and stock cables. Very solid shifts (in large part due to the delrin socket in the EVOMS Shift Linkage); no problems at all.

The 2-3 shift is best accomplished by allowing the spring assist in neutral to line the shifter up right below the 3rd gear position. I don't attempt to move the shifter diagonally from 2nd to 3rd. I push the shifter straight forward out of 2nd to neutral, pause to allow the assist to move the shifter to the right, then push straight forward into 3rd gear, all done with the palm of my hand.

This is my shift method as well. I don't grip the shifter at all going 2-3, simply push it firmly forward with the heel of my palm and it glides right over and clicks in to 3rd.

Default Learned quite a bit from this thread

I most likely will do a 997 Trans mount install. If I buy the 997 cradle with rubber inserts already in it, can I install it without removing the transmission?

Yes, just support the transmission.
