P0021 Code - Camshaft Position with respect to crankshaft bank 2- Anyone get it??
I got a P0021 Code
Camshaft Position with respect to crankshaft bank 2
I know this is more well known on the 997 Turbo with unpinned cams but wondering if anyone with a 996 Turbo has gotten this code?
I am hoping its just the cam timing solenoid. The car seems to idle and run fine. I do have a misfire showing up on just cylinder 6 at idle though.
Wondering if anyone has had the code and what fixed it for them? Thanks!!!

It could be the camshaft timing solenoid also though or the camshaft actuator, no? The car was timed right and I saw it myself, it's been running for a long time with zero issues inrelation to this and a lot a lot of high speed pulls.

P0021
Position of Camshaft in Relation to Crankshaft, Bank 2
– Below Limit
Diagnosis conditions
• Idle speed
• Reference mark recognized
• Engine speed between 600 rpm and 1200 rpm.
• Engine temperature greater than 40 °C
• No fault in camshaft position sensors
• Reference mark OK
• No fault in camshaft adjustment
• No fault in engine temperature
• No fault in camshaft adjustment output stage
Possible fault cause
♦ Allocation of camshaft to inlet camshaft incorrect
Affected terminals
-
Diagnosis/Troubleshooting
This fault is stored if the engine was disassembled and the allocation of the camshaft to the inlet camshaft was
incorrectly set.
Work instruction Display OK If not OK
1 Set camshafts ♦ To adjust the camshafts, please
refer to the 911 Turbo (996) or
911 Carrera (996)
Regardless of the above, I'm just not willing to attribute this to a sudden change in valve timing between two cams on the same bank.
Kevin touched upon sensor and sensor wiring. Those bear looking into.
I would add that a sudden appearance of this code with no untoward engine behavior suggests the timing is ok the probably lies elsewhere: As Kevin offer with the sensor (or wiring).
The problem is I'm always reluctant to encourage someone to tackle something as complex and critical to engine health as (tech term) messing with cam timing.
It takes some effort to get at this hardware and it takes some real careful work to ensure any adjustment is 1) called for; and 2) if called for done right.
I prefer to advise one to seek out a highly regarded Porsche shop and top tech and let him make the diagnosis and then handle the fixing of the problem.
