I'm the second owner, but the car had 275 miles on it when I bought it so I've put pretty much all the miles on.
I stopped at my local dealer to get their price for a new clutch - $5500!!! Ouch.

All you can do is shop around for best price from reputable shop and get it done= hopefully you can find better price but quality parts and work are what you want in the end.

Does the drivetrain need to come out?

It isa simple matter of torque multiplication through the transmission. First gear has a much higher multiplier than fifth, making the wheels easier to turn. Since the clutch is between the engine and the wheels it is the first to show the worn parts. Wheel spin has some to do with it, but even in a low horsepower application the worn clutch will rear its ugly head in higher gears without ever spinning a wheel.

trans need to come out/down is all. it's a 5 hr job, talking ones time. i'm in la, ,its of places will rent out a lift when not in use. a "fair" shop here would push a clutch job to 2k with parts, i would guess. unfair shop? as high as 1k labor and whatever parts cost, and that varies widely as you know.
it's always better/cheaper to source your own parts. i've seen a dealer want 250 for an accumulator while I've never paid more than 140 by example.

oem sachs w gt2 disc = 1k. labor on a rented lift = 500.

Mine was good until 100k with 500whp and I only changed it since I was dropping the trans! It never slipped once.

VERY few 993TT and 996TT and 997TT (same clutch) owners can go 100K on the stock clutch. MANY have to replace it below 35K miles.. Most flashes will loosen up the clutch between 25K to 35K.. That's the facts..
It is NOT wise in terms of dollars spent in labor and parts to install the factory OEM Turbo pressure plate. The 752 is a better option with the 764 Sachs being the best option. Especially IF you have a tuned car. If you are the 1% and the 100K club, you are in a realm where very few have obtained. (the turbo plate is A ok) But for most, 35 to 40K is the Average..

it sure does..and again, i would never presume a tt owner would slip their clutch unnecessarily, and again ruling out launch/burnout etc... but outside of outright abuse? 37k on a clutch is nuts.
