Well this is disturbing
I'm seriously contemplating upgrading to a 997 Turbo. I like my 996TT, but there are some reasons why I find the 997TT more appealing. They're all subjective, so no need to delve into that.
BUT, today I was looking to see what the market was on 996TT's (2003) and came across this...
link
$34,900 for an "accident-free" 44k mile 2003 Manual Turbo? Wow...that makes me want to hang on to mine and just drive the pi$$ out of it, instead of babying it like I do.
I know, it could be a total POS, but it's sad to see where the market has gone. I would be hard pressed to take less than $50k for mine!

A friend recently bought one and after looking for a few months ended up paying $51k for a nice 2001. He couldnt find anything good for less. Including in the US which is where he ended up buying.

I was wondering where all the great 30k 996tt were. Someone in the 996 forum found this one as well, saying it would sell in mid 30's

If they get any cheaper I may have to buy a second one, to keep around for the parts. Engine and tranny are not cheap. Not interested in a 997tt. The awd is completely different and in RL it's a lot heavier then my 996tt. I like the side intakes and stock rear wing but the negative side outweighs the positive ones.

Scott,
I have driven two 997 T's, a coupe and a vert.
Very nice car. Feels more of a lux touring car vs the 996 feels more like a " lux sports car". Great car the 997 if you want something a little "softer". Power is the same compared to a flashed 996t w k16s. Looks, well that is subjective of course.

I agree the 997tt feels more like a lux ride and I don't personally care at all for the dash. My 2001 still has some of the old feel 911 to it with a little edge left and I love the look of dash without glove box. That 996tt mentioned as stated has collision history =it is really hard to find a clean low mileage 996tt that is unmolested and passes the in person test. Bottom line a nice car is not cheap unless you happen upon someone in need or hurry to sell.

I s'pose depends on the extent of the damage in the collision for this car. If it was just a fender-bender, seems like a great price for a 44k mile '03 TT.

On autotrader I did a search of 2001 - 2004 Porsche 911s and turned up more than a few Turbos for sale for nearly double that $34.9K price, albeit with lower miles.
You can't or shouldn't use the price of one car to establish the market price of your car.

I'm just weighing the upgrades that I want to do on the 996 vs. buying a newer 997. I'm still considering the Stage 2 from Kevin, but if I were to keep the 996 long term, I'd also want to replace the front bumper cover (I've always thought the front bumper was the least attractive angle on the 996), respray the front end to remove the "patina," and upgrade the clutch.
I like the looks of the 997 better (yes, subjective), I like PASM, and since Kevin has a tune for the 997TT, I feel like my needs can be met short term.

I think the 997 feels "softer" just because of the suspension, with my experience with a 997tt with a set of coilovers, they feel the same as 996tt with a modified suspension.

There's always a reason for the low prices, even if it isn't readily apparent. Dealers don't stay in business by constantly selling their inventory way below market prices. I think you generally get what you pay for with these cars.
