996 Fire Extinguisher Kit M509 - fitted
I fitted the Porsche M509 fire extinguisher kit yesterday to my 996tt. The parts needed were:
There is a bit of mucking about in doing this. Firstly the original 996 extinguisher which I think is a Kiddie is NLA and isn't approved in Australia, so I bought a local one from Chubb. The Chubb extinguisher is a different shape around the nozzle and smaller in diameter but perfect for length. So I had to shorten up the strap and cut a small 1/2 moon shape in the cradle so the "best fit" of the extinguisher could take place around the pressure gauge.
To fit the metal bracket to the seat frame the screw holes in the frame need to be tapped out as they weren't from the factory. To do this you really need to remove the seat and then unclip the seat base from the frame so you can get the tap in there. It is also a bit awkard refitting the seat clips with the new metal bracket in place, so you need to refit the seat base clips and then insert the two outer facing screws. Any way after a could of hours it all fits up really neatly and doesn't squeak or rattle and doesn't hit your legs at all when getting in or out of the car nor when driving. It probably cost around $250 including the extinguisher all up.
- 999 141 028 02 x 3 = screws to mount metal bracket to seat frame
- 996 521 674 00 (LHD) or in my case 996 521 673 00 (RHD) x 1 = metal mounting bracket
- 900 067 137 02 x 2 screws to mount extinguisher cradle to metal bracket
- 900 151 027 02 x 2 washers for the above screws
- 996 521 607 00 x 1 Plastic red cradle to hold extinguisher

The fire extinguisher suitable for the 996 Fire extinguisher red plastic holder is the Gloria 1.3kg and not the 1kg one. I have managed to find one ( some available in ebay germany usually listed as a Mercedes fire extinguisher) and suits perfectly the plastic holder as well as the 996 interior
