Yes to new headers.
And here is where there are choices CATTED- the 997 GT3 headers is a direct fit as you would expect and has cats built into the header. They connect to 997 side delet pipes which connects to a 997 GT3 rear box of your choice, including OEM 997 GT3 rear box's, all of which are center exit. CATLESS - as above in concept if a full system from a single manufacturer is being used, or using aftermarket catless headers that replace the OEM 997 headers from above. This may require a DME flash.
The sound and power increase is the real reason to do it as anyone who has done this can attest. There is a reason Porsche did this on 997 GT3's.

If i was guessing, I would say its no more than an additional 10rwhp, and maybe even less. The additional torque however was significantly noticeable. The exhaust note also is louder and you can here the torque in it.

I have dynoed at base 996 GT3 and center exit 997 GT3 OEM exhaust on the same day on my 996 and so can tell you the delta there is 23+rwhp there. i have never dynoed the catless RSR style exhaust I run now, but I can tell you that the increase in power and torque (assuming matching tune) is noticeable. In the last year I had run both these exhausts back to back at Palmer MA due to sound, and the difference there was very noticeable. It helped to control wheel spin there!

996 GT3 prices have already hit bottom and have been going up the past few years. IMHO, these will always be coveted since they were the first US market GT3 and were built in limited numbers (around 1,000 for 2004-05). 991.2 manual GT3 will affect 991.1 GT3 / GT3 RS and possibly, 997 GT3 / GT3 RS.

I love the 996 GT3 - my first trackmonkey.
Kevin Nealon summarized the market value trends I've seen on them ...
interest levels rose when they hit the US .. interested ... INTERESTED .... (997s came out) .... NOT interested ... left the room to get something to eat .. came back (when 991 GT3 announced with PDK only) ... interested ... very interested ... INTERESTED ... (991.2 GT3 announced with stick) ... NOT interested .... wash, rinse, repeat ... (but ultimately they will be classics).

I had mine in Porsche West Broward - Roger Penske built a kickazz facility - earlier this week for tires & oil since it was time (and to correct a dumbazz Indy mistake...) and was pleased by the positive attention it generated - despite a 918 parked next to it.
