I sold a set of Focal IC 100 speakers to "Mike in NJ". He was going to run them with the stock head unit. You could pm him for feedback. Photos etc here -

I've got The Focal IC 100 in my '04 GT3. Work and sound great using the stock non-bose setup.

While the grills on the dash and rear side panels appear to hold separates, they actually only have a mid-range speakers. Here's a nice DIY that uses the stock speaker frames to install the Focals. Pretty straight forward and nicely detailed:

I did something similar to mount my front Focals. I provided a link above to the thread. My setup is also non-Bose, so I had to cut holes for the tweeters.

Nearly every thread with mention of a stereo upgrade, and you get these irrelevant posts to poke fun at people who just want to enjoy a decent sounding stereo. I agree it would be sacrilege to add a bunch of heavy speaker enclosures, tv screens or other crap to a GT3. I love the fact that I can enjoy my car on the street, listen to some tunes, and harass 997 GT3RS's on the track. It's useless to worry about 2 or 3 pounds of weight unless you're gutting the interior.

When I upgraded my stereo I stuck in a 10lb lighter battery to make myself feel better. Net weight reduction and much improved stereo. I love the sound of my FVD headers and Europipe exhaust, but everything has it's place. Rant over.

All in good fun, the diversity is what makes our community such a great place.

I'm actually an audiophile at heart. I'm writing this post with a set of Grado PS500e's on my head where they live most of the day while I'm at work. I've done full on audio builds in every daily driver I've ever owned.

For me...the "fun" direction I went with my car was no stereo system at all and an exhaust that produces 110db at full song. Sadly no matter what I would have put in the GT3 would not have sounded worth a darn over the sound and drone of my exhaust so I threw in the flag and went another direction.

I'm a huge fan of the smaller boutique companies in this segment when it comes to speakers and amplifiers. I'm doing an amp / subwoofer build in our E55 currently using Sundown audio products. http://www.sundownaudio.com/

On another forum, one of my post ("Can we stop, my head is full") was deleted by a moderator since it was an "irrelevant" comment. When I posted that it was not "irrelevant" since the original poster just want to know what wire to tap instead of a discussion on the odd wiring of Subaru's high beams, I was then given 2 "demerits" for "disrespecting" a moderator and that I would be banned from the forum if I persisted.

I then contacted the moderator and requested that he (she) go a head and ban me from the forum.

Hope this post is not deemed to be "irrelevant" - ;>)

P.S. I am installing a Hardon Kardon screen type unit with built-in Garmen that integrates my iPhone and iPod.

Andy, what are you putting in the E55? My DD is a E63 and the audio is as of now still stock.

That is whats happening at the mo, as with the tyres and road noise, the standard speakers sound so crap I turn them off. But I would like the option of listening to the radio when driving along the motorway
