Default Looking to join the club

Anyone got eyes on the cheapest 996 currently for sale? I'm (obviously) new to the forum and looking to build a track car. Looking for a coupe with a six-speed. I would prefer to drive it home (NY-metro area), but open to trailering it (blown engine okay). Would like to avoid body work, tranmission work, and cars with irreparable suspension damage. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
E

Track cars can be more expensive than a street car. And a blown engine is not exactly "cheap." Might be wise to find an existing track car with a tired engine but life left in the rest of it, and zero street usability. Maybe something built with a salvage title. Check out high performance Porsche shops and you might find a better donor for your project.

I greatly appreciate the sentiment and it is path I've considered, but ultimately, I have a pretty specific idea of what I want and a built car would most likely end up costing more. Plus, I find there's a particular satisfaction in a build that's difficult to replicate with a purchase.

I have '00 C4 that will have an '06 crate motor in it with 10k miles. The motor is fully beefed up for track including X51 baffle, X51 oil kit ($3k just for the parts) spin on adapter, Mag drain plug and underdrive pulley. The car is setup for AC but the engine is setup for AC delete so it can go either way.

I bought the car as a roller and had it's engine rebuilt to a 3.8 by Flat 6 Innovations. So the 3.4l engine in my track car will move to this C4 in about a month. But the engine is so strong and beefed up I'm hesitant to part with it. It also has really good UOAs. It would be easier to sell knowing it was going to a dedicated track car though.

Or I would also be interested in selling the C4 without an engine and keeping the 3.4l.

The C4 is a really good track donor as it's the same tub as the GT3. I have a source for parts that will allow you to do the C2 conversion for a couple hundred dollars which is a must for the track.

I was unaware the C4 is the same tub as the GT3 - so I am guessing this means C4 and C2 have a different tub? This is a very viable option for a track car!

JI has had great luck with 996's....

Sorry JI had to, I hope your next/current one is a better 966 for you.

Yeah there is a crappy looking black on cl, it's on here somewhere, I'll look after this. Has some nice Fabspeed exhaust bits (IIRC) for a pretty good deal, but the carpet looks like either coffee grounds, tabacco or mold is on it

There is a blown engine 997 fs on here as well, Guards Red, looks clean, just had engine issues. I think he's asking 12kish.

Yes, the C4/GT3 have better rigidity than the C2.

Thank you for this info. C4 converted to 2wd with a Raby engine could potentially a GT3 killer for many less doll hairs
