Default Quest to 996

Hi guys, been lurking for a while. Figured I'd make an intro and start a thread for my quest to the 996.

I loved long hoods since I was 10 in 1995. Peeling back the cover on my uncles 73.5 911T and loving the sugar scoops is my first memory of the love. Of course this love was sparked my dad's 356. But 911s were king. The sound, light feel, and shape. I still cannot deny it.

A 914/4 was my first car, still in the family.

Having been able to drive that 73.5 a lot, a 911E once, 1965 911, 911SCs a couple times, and the 996, I'm certain on my favorites.

Figuring I'd be older, making money and grounded, a long hood project would happen later and I kept surfing and partying in my 20s. Took up motorcycles as a low cost alternative too. Low and behold when I was ready, my favorite, 72 911S, would cost more than a new 911 off the lot in 2014. Even 911SCs just seem too expensive for me at the moment. Same for 964s. Big IVs, 916-6 conversions. Many ideas!

Growing up the car on my wall was a silver 996TT poster. That car never lost its luster. Still looking the business.

Here I am, realizing my budget is better placed in with turn key fun car. Not a TT but a C2. Time to get in the game! Why not a car with a better power/weight ratio than any AC Carrera, SC, or S? One to drive without worry.

3 years of sleepless nights learning about euro/US, 964s, Carreras, G50, 2.7s, angles to get in my budget and mostly just searching for deals... its time to get in the game. And with a fantastic car with DOHC, Vario Ram, wide tires, ready to rip!

I'm on the hunt, slow and deliberate.

Excited and focused on coupes for 2 model/year:

1999 C2 coupe. Less than 10 pounds per HP. Around $20,000. Double Row IMS. Perfect for the budget. Confident I can find a good one with decent miles.

Or

2004 40th Anniversary. Why did I have to learn about this one? Thanks Rennlist!!!! What a rad car! Better power/weight ratio than a 997.1S! X51!!!! 4ea for sale close enough but all at $35,000 and sitting there. 35 is out of the question for me. $30,000 is pushing it but possible.

The slow search is on.

Thanks for reading if you got this far and thanks for all the info posted here that I learned!

Ok no more non-996 from me in the 996 forum.

Maybe this post will make the "this week" kook thread!

Feel free to express thoughts, encouragement, love, distaste, etc about anything mentioned above!!!

Welcome Bonzer. Good luck with the search. The 996 is awesome and well worth the search.

I had several bikes before my 1st Porsche as well. Having fun on my GS1000...

Beautiful bike! Also, signal Orange is a great color for 914s. A 996 will be a great addition to your collection. I have a couple of 914s. Really fun cars, but not the greatest as daily drivers. I also have an old bike, 1986. Fun stuff!. You will find lots of cars in your budget.

Welcome to the 996 jungle my friend. Warning... we're a bunch of crazies around here and there's more banter than Billy Bush can yank out of us. hahaha!

Let us know how your search is going and post pictures when you can. Love to hear your story along the way.

Cheerios!

Loving the RD350. I had a worked over 1981 RD350 but it paid for a wedding ring... not to worry turns out it was a great investment, my darling wife gave me a 996!

Happy hunting

Good luck with your hunt. The '99 is the best! You may even be able to get an aero close to your budget. Now that would be sweet!
