Headlight upgrade options?
Total new porsche owner...so please be easy. I am looking at upgrade options for my 99 996headlights. Starting to look bad, and also hate the orange. Is there any other options than the $2500 aftermarket ones? Any other years that fit and don't have the orange? 996 boxter lights the same?

How much were they? I was interested in those, they looked super cool.
I've seen used Litronics at $400/side, but you have to wait around on those. Usual going rate is like $600 per or more.

It is difficult/impossible to get the auto-leveling functionality to work with litronics on a car that did not come equipped with them. The lights will work, but the dipping/leveling functionality won't, so you'll be one of those aftermarket HID people running around blinding people.
You might be able to score a used set of aftermarkets. There is one LED setup in particular that I think looks good on black cars; I don't know about other colors.
Are your current lights litronics, or are they just halogen bulbs?
For what it's worth - there was a guy (here? or 986forum.com maybe?) who would de-amber headlights for a fee - if you got the orange out and polished and clear-coat your existing lights, they would look nearly as good as a new set...

I have a 98 Boxster with standard halogen lights and a 2000 C2 with the upgraded lights. Driving the two cars at night I can't say I see much of a difference. When I go to replace a light bulb, however, that's where I see a difference ($$$). The only difference I see in the housings are the washers. If you are looking top save money just watch ebay for the halogen clear lenses housings.

There are some other options but none are inexpensive. You are going to pay over $1,000 to get rid of that orange. I guess you have to decide if that's where you want to put $1,000 or more likely $1,500. The only people who give a sheet about orange blinkers are Porsche heads, and they probably don't think much of your car anyway and clear headlights won't change that.
I'm assuming you went with a '99 because you wanted a 911 and the price was a reasonable entry point. If that's the case I'd wait a little longer, there may be much better places to spend $1,500. But hey it's your car and your call. Enjoy it.
