Default Best Exhaust combo for Porsche 996

Hello all - looking to give my 996 C2 a new sound. I have an IPD plenum, Fabspeed cold air intake (red), Fabspeed X pipe, stock headers and exhaust. I've been looking at Fabspeed Super Cup, Scart, Tubi, Cargrahpic, Fister Mod, etc exhaust. Not sure which exhaust to add next to my set up? I am taking the car to the track occasionally, but mostly enjoy spirited driving on the street. Want it to sound exotic, throaty and sporty

I would think to complete the set up go with Fabspeed. Like any other system out there most companies design their components to work together. But if you were to go with a different can I would go Fister......not a hacked gundo but an actual Fister.

ps.....GO PACK!

Thank you for the reply. Have you ever heard the fab speed supercup exhaust? After I installed the X pipe, I was expecting the car to sound louder. So now I am less afraid that the combination of the X pipe and the supercup Will be too loud for me. I would expect some drone with that set up though, so I might get sick of it over time. Maybe the max flow fab speed exhaust would be a better option. Why do you say to purchase an actual fister mod compared to the gundo hack with a local exhaust company?

I heard the Tubi exhaust on a Cayman that had been heavily modified, and it was awesome! I just can't see justifying spending $2000 on an exhaust plus install.

I love these subjective questions. The best exhaust combo will be whoever has the "best" car color, wheels, tires, etc.

OP,

We can't read your mind or know your taste. There is no magical meter to measure this. I would recommend you either go to some Cars&Coffee gathering or PCA events, or browse through some sound clips on youtube to get some sort of ideas.

"Throaty" definition would be Fister followed by Cargraphic IMO.

"Sporty" definition for me would be Super cups followed by Tubi's.

Haven't heard any Scart systems.

Do you prefer more Cup Car sound, muscle car deep rumble, or F1 style higher pitch sound?

I'm going to do something like this - http://www.afterhoursautomotive.com/...emufflers.html (or the 2nd generation ones they have on the site) or have a shop make something like that.

Cheaper than other options, shouldn't be much midrange loss as bypass pipes.

afaik cross over pipes or new cats would't really do much to effect the sound - and thinking out loud, not sure how needed crossovers are with these.

No.

Two reasons.

1) I'm not a fan of doing anything to the car (engine, exhaust, intake wise) that wouldn't also give me some kind of power or efficiency boost.

2) I like glass packs, have some on my bike, one on my Jeep, and this would fit right in - and it's cheap.

[edit] I'm also cheap, and assuming my muffler rattle is a broken bracket or can be solved by my shop next week by swapping out for another stock one then I'm not going to do anything. These things are expensive enough and with a new (to me, built 1909) house I really don't need any more things to spend $2k+ on. I'm pretty happy with the stock sound.

LOL yes I am aware that this is a very subjective question, as it seems like ones taste in exhaust for these cars is quite varied.

I think I prefer the sport sound compared to the throaty exhaust. But that is just my preference. Thank you for the post about the new exhaust. I will do some research on that.

I've got Fabspeed Maxflow's on my car (came that way). I would describe them as "throaty" - very nice "sportscar" sound.

Vikings, I live in Maple Grove and have some silencer from my 3.6 that have the Fister style 2 inch mod that I'll sell for $300, cheap way to get a great sound, if you want you can hear them on my car.

I'm looking to put the car back to standard

I wouldn't call it "drone" as in, it's a constant thing... At certain points in the power curve (like if you're cruising at 2800 rpm - that's about 70mph in 6th gear in my car) if you step on the gas, you'll hit a "resonant frequency" that some may call drone, but it doesn't last long enough to qualify in my book. In other words, it really only resonates when you stomp on it - once the rpms level out there's no "drone" to speak of. Obviously, it's a pretty subjective thing, but in my mind it doesn't "drone"...hope this helps

I have the supercups and x pipe with cats from Fabspeed.

It droned with just the supercups but now with the complete system it sounds amazing!!! not as much drone!
