Default 170k mi 951 w/350hp Vitesse for 996 NA?

In July I bought an SSI maintained 951 to take to the track and over the past 6 months had the car gone completely over and everything repaired/replaced/upgraded (list below) and the interior deleted.

$32k later and circumstances have changed, no track, need $, and need rear seats.

After having put so many resources into the aforementioned 951 I don't want to sell it (at 170k I know I'd lose $) but having noticed the prices of 996's now well under $20k (1st Gen) and around $30k (Gen 2) I'm wondering if a trade (hopefully with $ in the case of a Gen 1) is something reasonable to pursue or should I instead be thinking in terms of just putting the non-racing front & rear seats back in & cutting my losses ... thoughts from the 996 owners? I'd bought an '04 996 NA in '10 w/17k mi on it for $36 & it was a great car.

Here's the stuff that was replaced within the past 6 years/30k miles:

might have an easier time selling it than finding someone willing to trade, same brand, different ends of the spectrum.

Put the interior back together and keep her. Things may change for you in the future and you may regret it considering all the hard work and time invested. She is a beautiful 951

In a couple of years, and under some different circumstances, I would consider this deal. So, you're not crazy but the odds of finding the right person are not likely good. But in my experience, the guys who got the best deals on Porsches always had a bit if luck on their side. Hard work can't always overcome good timing.

So good luck to you.

I just got it done and haven't tracked it yet, may not be able to for the foreseeable future. I had an '83 944 NA before and there wasn't a turn it couldn't take.

Nicely built high mileage 951s are $10k all day long. You can't find a decent 996 for that. Nice car but with a color change, mods, and no interior it's going to be a tough sell or trade. I would suggest reinstalling the interior and making it what you need, the back seats of a 951 are just as good as a 996 and the hatchback is more practical.

911 engines are also more expensive to rebuild/replace so I think I'll keep the 951
