Bad Belt?
After a longish drive last night, I pulled into the garage and heard what sounded like a bad belt. It was not very loud but had that high whine sound just barely audible over the sound of the engine.
When I started the car this morning, the sound was gone. Drove it for a few miles and still could not hear it. Ran great. I had the serpentine belt replaced about a year ago. My question is, if a belt is failing, does the sound come and go, or just get worse? Any other thoughts?
My Indy told me to watch my water pump since it was loose but not leaking and I am having that replaced next week when I do the clutch. Thanks in advance.

belt comes off in <5 minutes - when removed you can rotate the idler pulleys and the water pump and feel/listen/look for play in those - inspect belt and replace if needed -
lastly you can run the motor without the blef for a short period of time ~1 minute - and listen - if the sound is still there, your problem lies elsewhere

It's hard to say...which is why I suggested first checking (since it's easy) and second, running with no belt and listening then
it's possible its not even your belt/pulley area - could be the clutch throughout bearing or any number of other things...It sounds like you heard it from inside the car, maybe even with the window open...not with your head in the engine compartment.... but I read things into posts how I see fit

Definitely heard it inside the car. Immediately turned down the stereo. Was running late so I just shut it off and figured I would deal with it in the morning. No sound to check today, its just purring like a Porsche.
