Replacing Instrument Cluster Bulb
So...I was happy to see my airbag light go off finally, but have deduced that the bulb just burned out.
I have seen a few threads regarding replacing a bulb on the cluster (the CEL bulb more than the airbag bulb) but was looking for a little better DIY instructions. Apparently there are two screws, and it is a very simple task, and the entire cluster does NOT need to be pulled, but was hoping to get some more input from some fellow Rennlisters who has done this type of replacement.
Thanks!

Um... Why change out an airbag light anyway, if you read many threads about airbag faults many guys give up and cover the light with black tape. Maybe you just got lucky...

Because I've gotten a PIWIS cable, as well as stuff that was recommended to clean the contacts inside of the buckle (another poster said after cleaning and re-setting, he hasn't had it come back on it years) ... so I'd like to see if that fixes it.

Maurice,
I've searched that, and will go that route if I have to, but there are a few people that have referenced being able to change the bulb with the cluster/panel still in tact, and I'm wondering if anyone has any DIY around that.
Thanks!

I removed the cluster about a year and a half ago to change a broken odo reset stem. Lots of instructions on the 'net (for 996s and 986s (Boxsters)) if you search for "change gauge faces". It should be noted that when I did this back then, there were a bunch of helpful resources (like the whiteson webpages) that are no longer on the net...

I think therer is some confusion between pulling and disassembling the cluster. The cluster will have to be removed from the dash (very easy) and removed from the cover. You do not need to disassemble the cluster as each light bulb can be replaced from its separate access location.
