PSS9/PSS10 Surprise!!
A little long winded story, but a great ending.
For the past several months I had been debating on what to do for replacing the worn out shocks on my 2000 C4 Cab. I looked at the Bilstein replacement shocks, both the HD and the Sport, but a set was over $1,000. Considered the ROW M030, which was actually less than a set of the shocks alone at Sunset, and of course includes springs, sway bars, etc. (still hard to believe that the whole set up is less than just the shocks). But the only sets for a C4 were in Germany, and I was concerned about the stiffness and ride height. Tried to go with the new Koni FSD’s, or alternatively Koni’s new adjustable shocks, but after some research I found that Koni does not make them for the front of a C4.
Looked at other coil over systems, H&R, KW, KSport, etc. but they tend to be big bucks (except for the KSports). Of course I also considered Bilstein coil overs. I had looked at PPS9’s over the past few years, and now the new PSS10’s. Finally decided to go with Bilstein coil overs, however the PSS9’s are discontinued and the PSS10’s go for $2,400+++.
There had been a set of PSS9’s on eBay for the last several months for a Buy It Now of $1,850 with shipping. They had been relisted several times without selling. I had called the seller to see if they would sell them for less than $1,850, but on the phone they were quoting $2,450. I talked with Vivid Racing and a couple of other sources to see if I could get PSS9’s thru them, but all said they were no longer available. And again the prices they quoted for a set of PSS10’s were about $2,600 delivered. Saw lots of PSS10’s for more than that.
So Tuesday I decided to buy the PSS9’s on eBay and gave them the $1,850 Buy It Now. They shipped them out the same day, and when I got back to the house this afternoon the box was there. Looked at the box and saw that the number on the box was not the GM5-8848-H0 listed in the ad, which is the number for PSS9’s for a C4. Guess what, THEY ARE A BRAND NEW SET OF PSS10’S, PART NUMBER GM5-D535-H0!!!!!!!
So a brand new set of PSS10’s for my car for only $1,850 including shipping. Have to say I am pretty happy with this. That is $700-$800+ less than anyplace else I checked. I think I will give the seller a Positive Feedback rating on eBay.
Can’t wait to install them, hope to have time next week.

Yea, first thing I did. They are definitely PPS10's. Silver and blue with the 10 settings. Also the numbers on the individual bags are the PSS10 numbers. The box was sealed from Bilstein.

But either way, Karma is probably going to hit you with a piano or something. You should stay indoors for a while - just not on eBay.

Let's see if I understand the situation here:
You willingly pay the $1850 for PSS9s because the PSS10s were going for significantly more, both through this seller and other reputable shops.
The seller makes a mistake and sends the wrong thing, and you feel it's fine to keep them and not mention it to the seller?
I guess it's okay if someone gets screwed if it's anonymous.....can't say it's too honorable though. Probably wouldn't be bragging too much about your big score.

philooo - C2 or C4? I have been told that with a C2 you can compress the shocks and get them out from under the fenders (be careful) but that on the front of a C4 the drive shaft, etc. makes this more difficult and you may have to remove the strut from the bottom suspension piece, which requires a tool.
If you do a search here and on Renntech you will find lots of info and write-ups. Although the only one I have found for an install is for the ROW M030 on a C2.

All I gotta say is "Every once and a while a blind hog stumbles up on a acorn". Keep them, change your name, move to a different city, shave your mustache and don't get caught. Very seldom do we ever get pay back.

Leftlane - Not sure if I agree with you totally although I can somewhat see your point. The eBay listing for the PSS9's had been on for 3+ months, and kept on being extended as they did not sell for the $1,850. I called the seller, a commercial shop, two or three times to see if they would negotiate on the price as the units had not sold. Each time they quoted a price for the PSS9's (I never requested or received a price for PSS10's from them and I have never seen an eBay listing for PSS10's for a C4 by them) that was $2,400+. I would point out that the eBay listing was for $1,850 and they would say well the price was $2,400+. So if they have an eBay listing for $1,850 Buy It Now, and then when you call them they quote a price that is $550+ more on the phone is that honest/honorable of them? Not sure. In any case do they even have a set of PSS9's for my car? Not sure. If they have a set in the storeroom, and someone shipped the wrong ones, then maybe you are right. But if they are advertising PSS9's and really only have PSS10's then I don't think you are right.
Guess I will have to give this some thought. In any case, I don't think they are loosing money on the sale, just making less.
