swapping 996 gauge clusters
Has anyone installed a used gauge cluster in their 996 and got the mileage changed to match the mileage for the car? The Porsche dealer said that only new clusters can be reset to match the original mileage. They said it must be done with the first 100 miles of the new cluster. I have a GT2 Cluster that I am running in my Turbo and it works just fine, but I want to make it match the original mileage. I want it to be correct for Insurance and licensing purposes etc. I have the original cluster and the electronics all work, but the speedo is messed up (I broke it doing a gauge face replacement but that’s another story). I just what to know what can be done.

The only people that can change a cluster with more than 52 miles (100km) is speedometer specialty shop.
A good shop will also give you the documentation to back it up (for when you sell the car).

if I swap clusters will I still be able to read the over revs and other data from before the swap? I'd like to convert to Black gauges. There's a used cluster available.

you can swap the faces in about hour. It's super easy. put masking tape on a fork it will pull the needles off really easily. Make sure to photograph where the needles sit before hand

Can color of instruments be changed, and if so where to obtain different backgrounds? Interesting to think about white, yellow, or red gauges.
