broken clutch
Well got my car back today. (description of what happened is on the last pages of my big brake thread) The center portion of the clutch disc failed, sheared off at the rivets...
Got gt2rs disc put in. Engages really nice and as it's made for launch control, hopefully it will hold up to any shock my jack rabbit starts cause!

That's impressive. How many miles/ track time on the disc. Looks like you had plenty of friction material left. Kinda hard to believe the 4 stand offs hold the disc together. Well supposed too

The clutch came with the Andial motor. Looking at the paperwork, the clutch had about 8K miles on it prior to me getting it, and I've put on 12K miles since, so total 20K miles. It has 8.5mm of disc material so lots left. Yeah, it's just those 4 pins that hold things together. I guess it doesn't need to hold that much torque as the springs transmit the torque but those pins hold/line things up.
The 997 gt2rs disc seems pretty good, nice engagement. Don't need to give it any gas off idle when engaging.
I'll change the transmission oil this weekend as I know I ground the gears some before I could get back to the paddock when this happened.

Wow I've never seen that before in all my years fiddling around with cars (20+).
Even big horsepower street/drag strip mustangs I've owned and raced. I have to say this is a first.
Very surprising. Was it a sachs clutch??? Just curious. I can't tell by the photos.

Yah, never seen that before either - wow! Maybe it was a fatigue issue, and if one post failed, the other three could not support the strain. Did JB ever seen that before?

Of course, this has me paranoid. I have the 4.0 disc, and thought it would be adequate for my application. I am at 520 hp max (race gas). Running closer to 500 on a regular basis. No drag racing, just fun runs and track work. Tell me you're running significantly more power!

Well.. when I had it on the dyno using 92 octane Texaco gas that I could get local to the track, it was putting down 540 hp and 550 tq to the rear wheels. I have been running 104 octane gas for a while at the track as I think it runs a little better and think it is a little 'safer' for the engine. I buy it in 55 gal drums and have if dropped off for me at the track by Masco petroleum. I've bought a hand pump. I can add just enough gas for the session so I don't have to carry extra gas/weight.

Very surprised too! JB mentioned seeing it before but this has to be so far off from common.
Fingers crossed we are not hearing about this again another 20K miles from now.
