Default GT2 Wheels Question

I have always been a bit disappointed with the size of wheels and rubber on My GT2 Clone. Currently Running 9jEt17 and 11jEt12 tyres 235/285, slight issue with front outside edge eating the wheel arch liner due to it being lowered on KW varient 3,s.. My thoughts have wandered over the idea of a custom set of Tramounts 10jEt32 and 12.5jEt32 tyres 265/335. I would ideally of liked Real speedlines but prices are crazy. Would be great to here the thoughts of any other Clone owners. Picture is my Current Techart wheels . Tim

You should be able to fit much larger tires/wheels. Mine has 8.5 et 52 and 11 et 40 with 255/35/18 and 315/30/18 s with stock frnders.

Get Jim D to see if he can get your rears to 12'', he built a set of those TA's for me, otherwise 315's & 235's are good (996gt2 stock tires on 9's & 12's)

What kind of camber are you running to get that much rubber under factory fenders?

Those Daytonas look to be wider than 11 " on the rear but looks can be deceiving...
Possibly you have more width offset to the outside and left remaining room to the inside
at least on the rear.
My Speedlines are 12.75 rear and 10.5 front ,305 and 265 respectively , thanks Bert

Thanks for usefull information Bert . You are correct in your thinking I have a lot of space on the inside at the rear. I take it yours are made from the RS Speedlines ,You dont happen to know what offset (ET) yours are . Tim

Tim I don't recall the actual offset , my GT rims were built up from RS magnesium Cup
Centerlock centers and new inners and outers.
I'd venture to say Jim would know those exact dimensions , but I can guess and mention
the inner rears are 9" and fronts 7" maybe 8".
there is a notation on the rim but have to go out to check , thanks Bert

Funny this is the second time i have come across Rs Centre lock conversion by Jim In the last week. How does your car behave on the road with such big boots. Just measured my rears at 6 1/2 Inner 4 1/2 outer Lip. Tim

When I first fit them, I was running -2 (using little more than that now). The 255/35 fronts fit too but rub at full lock on passenger side at the leading edge of the wheel liner (same place the 235 and 245/40's would rub) which I fixed buy pulling the wheel liner forward with zip ties. On full compression at a particular down hill corner at the track, it would sometimes rub on upper inner liner again on passenger side near the oil line bracket bolt, which I fixed by dialing the motons one click stiffer..

Jim actually just refinished the centers and bolts and assembled with
new inner and outer halfs, the centerlock conversion was completed
by a close buddy that worked at ANDIAL and Porsche Motorsport
who supplied hubs and centering rings, axles and end bolts are the
same as stock.
She can be a handful for sure but mostly just sticks like a skate !
You get some tram lining and pulls with the crown of the road but for the most part solid as a rock ..thanks Bert

When you have time take a look at the valve stem on your wheels there should be the width of the wheel on one side and the offset on the other side in grey etching. I have seen re-finished wheels with the diameter rather than the offset and gold letters rather than grey but I dont think this is strictly correct. Tim

I use the 996 GT2 wheels on mine (F 8.5 x 18 ET 40 and R 12 x 18 ET 45) with Michelin PS2's for the street (F 235/40-18 and R 315/30-18) and Pirelli slicks for the track (F 235/645-18 and R 305/645-18), and they don't rub on my factory Turbo fenders even lowered with H&R's):

Can you let me know what your ride height is? I'm at 104/103.5mm f/r
Have 295s in rear and that's all I can fit w/o rubbing. When I tried 235s in the front, I rubbed inner lip of fender, inner front of well liner, and rear area of inner well. As it stands now, I'm running out of options for available tires. They're getting away from some of the 18's that used to be available. Thanks for any insight.

It's the offset and rim width that is preventing you from running any tire wider than a 295 on the rear. With an 11" wide rim in the rear you can run up to a 315 on stock fenders with the proper offset. Most owners that want to run up to 255's in the front have some negative camber built in.
