Default RUF 19" Wheels

Guys
Just agreed to purchase the following

Genuine 19" Ruf 5 spoke Softline
8.5x19 et56 front > 10x19 et66 rear

Wanted to just double check that they were genuine, as I wont see them until I collect on Thursday, all seems correct but better to be safe than sorry.

They have the following information on the inside of the wheel RUF...., Made in Italy, Part number R96362 11710, plus the wheels sizes and from the pictures look genuine.

Also any recommendations on tyre sizes and makes would be appreciated.
Many thanks

PS and I blame this on Steve and RUFUS and others

I agree, they look good but just too heavy.

I think my Ruf 19" wheels are wider... at least the rear seems to be at least 11". I mounted 255x30x19 and 305x25x19 Pirelli Rosso Asymetricos on mine. These "rubber bands" are the same over all rolling diameter as the stock 225x40x18 285x30x18 tires, and are matched just as nicely with respect to the viscous coupler. I must say I was pleasantly surprised at the ride quality and handling of these wheels/tires... despite the weight. Perhaps Ruf knows what they are doing with their suspension setup?

Damn! I wish I bought these in 19" instead of my black 18" RUF's

Gordon,
I assume you know you'll need spacers on the rear of your TT. RUF recommends and supplies 28mm bolt on spacers, though 35mm spacers also work if you don't go too large on the rear tires (295 max). I'm sticking with the 28s, as I think the 35mm spacers create an imbalance in the look between the fronts and rears (the fronts will look too far in the wheel wells). RUF also recommends 245/35 and 285/30 tires for the 8.5 and 10 inch wheels. That's what I'm using with PSS9s and I've had no problems. I wouldn't use the 305s like Steve unless the rears were 11".

Good Luck

Hal
I like the black nuts and black wheels centres and matching air valve, I'll have to enquire about the price on those. By the way what tyres have you fitted ? I new about the spacers just need to locate some and find out the price

Bill P
How much heavier are the RUF's than the hollow twists?

and everyone else am I okay with the stock suspension?

Thanks

Gordon,

My car came with the Ruf suspension and 245x35x19 & 295x30x19 on the rear. These tires are one full inch taller than the stock 18" tires. I found that the tires could rub slightly on the leading edge of the rear bumper right where it attaches to the rear fender when the suspension would compress. This is another good reason to use the wider but smaller diameter tires (305x25x19). Of course, wheel offset (and spacers), suspension firmness, and rear camber settings can also affect this.

Gordon,

I bought Bridgestone S03s when I mounted the RUFs. 245/35 and 285/30. As Steve mentioned, they are taller than the 225/285 18s. As I said before, I've had no problem with rubbing with mine on the 10" rears and 28mm spacers, and my car is set to RS ride height (it's pretty low). Remember that Steve is using 11" rears. If you decide to go to a 305 rear tire, you might want to consider the 11" rears instead of 10s. H&R makes a full line of high quality spacers in the right sizes. You can also get them from RUF (American distributor is in Dallas).

Good luck.

Here's a picture of my rear wheel 10" with 285/30 S03.

Collected the wheels yesterday cost £1000, no marks and very clean, though wheel centres are not to good presume due to the wheel cleaner acid damage.
Just need to locate some 28mm spacers and some nice black wheel nuts and possibly some black Ruf wheel centres.

Thanks to all for your input.

Some WEIGHT data I came across when doing a search which was provided by HAL, apologies for the plagerism.

Weights are for one wheel with tire mounted and balanced.

18s are with 225/285 S02s except hollow spokes have 225/285 P0 Pirelli. Offsets for 18s are 52mm front and 40mm rear except as noted. RUF offsets are 56mm front and 66mm rear (requires rear spacer).

18" FACTORY HOLLOW SPOKES
8" fronts 44 lbs
10" rears 53 lbs

18" FACTORY TECHNOLOGY (SOLID SPOKES)
8" fronts 51 lbs
10" rears 60 lbs

18" 94 TURBO 3-PIECE FACTORY SPEEDLINES
8" fronts 48 lbs
10" rears 54 lbs (these have a 61mm offset requiring a 20mm spacer) total weight 57 lbs.

19" RUF
8.5" fronts 53 lbs with 235/35/19 Dunlops
10" rears 59 lbs with 285/30/19 Dunlops
(rear 35mm spacers add 4 lbs)to 63 lbs

So, as you can see, the RUF 19s are heavier than the hollow spokes by 9 lbs each front, 10 lbs rear(inc spacer). RUF fronts are 1/2" wider, tire is 10mm wider than 18s. The RUF wheels actually weigh slightly more than the 18" technology (solid spoke) wheels(2 lbs front, 3 lbs rear).

Gordon,

Great info, but there is great variation with the weight of the tires among different manufactures/models. Still... interesting data. Thanks for collecting it.

I had rubbing with spacers..not sure how big. They were on the car when i bought it, but I put JIC cross suspension in it, lowered it ...a bunch and it was rubbing in the rear under light load even. It has turbo twists stock (chrome tho)..I was pissed ...they looked great with the spacers, but I like it low. at least with JIC i can adjust the ride height easily. I dont know how much it has to come up..maybe the spacers were too wide (35mm?) it was rubbing on the fender lips, I believe

Put a new set of MPS2's on the 19" Ruf wheels today. With the old tires off I weighed my Magnesium wheels at 18 lbs front and 20.3 rear.....very light for 19's!
