I'm thinking that is has more to do with what is just above his join date...

Surely there is nothing suggestive about the Porsche crest!

But I will say a Pad Keeper is on my short-term "to get" list.

I made that same comment when I first saw this over a year ago. I was swayed to give it a try, and I have to say, it's obvious it was designed for this need, and is more than just a piece of plastic. It is a piece of plastic, albeit a custom one that took some $ to work up tooling and manufacturing.

I'll suffice it to say, when I got it, I did feel I got my money's worth, after being skeptical initially. David is a pretty nice guy too, which makes it easier to fork over money. Better that than him being a f-head!

My thought is it will keep the pad from degrading further as well, in addition to keeping the compartment looking a whole lot tidier.

Not much is cheap on these cars-I just spent $200 on new silicone heater duct hoses, which are even more hidden, and my ratty old ones still worked. Same with the $200 in plastic rocker panels on the way, as I wasn't happy with the fit of the old ones. But, they will put the car in that much better condition.

I understand business a little, appreciate supply and demand and commend David's excellent customer service. It's just a bit beyond my interest to solve this type of problem at this price range. Is there more to this plastic piece that I'm not seeing? So, if I ever decide to do this fix, I'll do it with a piece of aluminum. Maybe paint it. And there's also this: http://www.autohausaz.com/pn/99355628100 Which is much cheaper, too, and might fix the issue, but might be harder to install with engine in.
