PS Pump Removal
Need a little help from more experienced Rennlisters...
I'm in the middle of a refresh on my 97 C2, and would like to pull the power steering pump. I started by referencing the PET to see how everything fits together:
I was able to find a few past threads, one of which has a nice picture of the PS pump area, taken with the engine out of the car (post #2):
https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...ml#post1333161
In that picture, the plastic cover (PET #11) has already been removed. There are three short M6 bolts down around the large pulley, and two M8 cap screws up top that are attached to the pump housing.
I have removed all of these fasteners, and am now trying to wrestle this cover out of the car. The problem is, the small-end of the cover seems to be stuck between the engine and the rubber flap around the body. I have tried jacking the engine up and down to find a sweet spot to be able to maneuver this cover out, but so far unsuccessful.
To anyone who has done this job without removing the engine... is there some trick to getting this cover out?
TIA!

Oy... that is not what I wanted to hear!
I have already removed the engine mount, and have the engine resting on a jack.
I'm thinking to try and lower the engine so that the top of the pump cover can clear the body.
I'm a little concerned about stretching or ripping oil lines and wire harnesses though...

May I ask what prompts you to remove the pump?

Three Wheelin'
I have removed the cover with the engine in place. If I remember correctly, I had to swear a lot and use a lot of temporary lubrication (like soapy water) around the rubber skirt. The plastic has some flex to it, but do not break it!

Hmm lube is a good idea; I'll try that.
I'm removing the ps pump because it's leaking around the housing seals. I'm going through and fixing all the engine cover leaks, leaving the ps pump as is did not seem right.

i would recommend if you plan on removing the pump to cap it and put a electric pump in the frunk.
you can use the 996 cup PS pump and remove the mechanical pump all together. you gain some HP and its much easier to work on. rothsport sells the cover plate for the pump.

I have a turbo, I pulled the cover up into the engine bay to get it out. To put it back on, I pulled it down (from above) using twine while using a screwdriver on the rubber piece...
didn't have to do anything with the motor mounts.

When my mechanic did my PS belt, he said they loosened the motor mounts (possibly trans mount?) and lowered the engine slightly to do that job (which requires removing the cover of course).
