Starter part number
I'm planning on replacing the starter in my '95 C2, Looking at Bosch numbers, I'm completely and utterly confused.
There's SR0451n shown by a bunch of sellers
There's SR-0429-X-M14 shown by Pelican.
There's also a remanufactured starter for $100 from Autozone that might be a better solution, given the lifetime warranty (yeah, I know, labor's not free, but that sounds reasonable).
So, what say you?

No affiliation but I'm surprised at the $100 price tag for a starter from a Porsche dealer.

Manual car starter;
Porsche number 99660410702 outright purchase about $1100
Porsche number 9966041071X exchange unit about $900 plus core charge

Make sure to replace the copper bushing in the transmission bell housing.
In many locals, there are starter rebuild shops, if you can have your car "off the road" for a week or 2.
Electric motor windings and solenoids are not Porsche specific ;-)

Pervy, that Bosh part number doesn't seem to be right for US. Looks liek they number things differently here.
As far as rebuilding - my indy will be doing teh swap and I'm leaving teh car with him for 3+ weeks. If he agrees to take it to a rebuild place... Though my experience buying reman starters and alternators has been better than getting them rebuilt. And, the way starter makes whizzing noises when hot, I'm not so sure it's not stripped gears or something similar. Weird metal noise when cranking and then no start. Does start after 4-5 tries. Never does that when cold, so it might just be crud inside the starter. I've seen another local car do that, cured by starter replacement.
BTW, that copper bushing. I've seen pics. Is it sold separately? What's the part number?

I don't think there are difference in parts themselves. It's just odd that Bosch seems to have different part numbers in different parts of the world. Bruce's link, above, is also what I saw -it's SR0451N part number and Bosch number different than what you mention above. And different than Pelican part. So I'm utterly confused.

Now, this really became an urgent question. Is Bosch SR0451n the proper starter for a manual '95 993?
And, additionally, what's the part number of the copper bushing? And is it a separate part or will it always come with a starter (I'm going with new Bosch).

Yep, looks like the bushing will be part of the package. The number's however, are still a bit of mystery. So I'll be going with SR0451N unless told otherwise. It looks like most places reference that as a proper new Bosch starter here in US.
