Default Oil change comedy

Changed my 993's oil yesterday. Even found that when removing the filter I pull the surgical glove off my hand and over the filter it encapsulates it so it can be discarded without a mess. All was going well until the filler funnel full of oil flipped out of the filler neck. What a mess! On the fan, behind the center tail light, all over the engine tin, belts what a mess! I really out did myself! Five cans of CRC QD electronic cleaner later things are getting back to normal. My standard Poodle found my scurrying around intriguing.

Given time, I'm sure I will do worse...

Sorry for the bad luck!

Yikes! I feel for you, Andy; but in the future, two things a guy of your experience, should never admit to...

1. That you werent paying attention to the point of allowing a short stemmed funnel, to fill to the extent of flipping out of the filler neck, and

2. That you own a poodle

Kidding with you...

Wondering how all that CRC solvent will effect the belts over time?

He's a very manly large standard poodle!

I don't see the CRC attacking the belts as it is used to clean rather delicate electronics, but I'll keep you posted.

Thank-you for you thoughts!

Unless you've already burned it off, check for oil on top of the right heat exchanger.

So far, the oil changes have been pretty drama free on the 993. However, there was this one time I was changing the oil on my 930….once upon a time at band camp…

The oil containers that I usually used for the job were full and I didn’t have time to empty them. The only empty container I had on hand was the style that’s completely sealed with a small opening. I remember having my doubts, but I wen’t for it anyway…FOOL! I thought to myself, just don’t drop the drain plug and all should be good. What’d I do? Yep, I dropped the drain plug! And of course, it landed perfectly in the drain opening, blocking the flow of several quarts of hot oil rushing out of the oil tank!!!!! UGH!!! It was a disaster! I swear there were oily Chuck Taylor foot prints all over my garage floor, until the day I sold that house, to serve as a reminder from that cluster-F!! NEVER AGAIN!

This (terrible idea):

I have the same exact container and have done the same exact thing lol. I still use that damn thing, it's like playing oil roulette.

Hate it when that happens. One of the local Indy's here uses a very large funnel connected to a spare oil filler cap to prevent such mishaps. He secures the top end of the funnel to the decklid with rubber strap and hook and confidently dumps in five quarts at a time. Good way to avoid "the horror"

Supposed to be one of the smartest breeds.

I have one of those Walmart oil drain containers, but have yet to drop the drain plug into it. Thanks for the heads up!
