Juha congrats on a stopgap project car that tops most of us for our primary project hhaha
I'm working on a 3.8 RS Cup project as well in addition to my GT2 so I can imagine just a
modicum of your pain and fun..
When I saw the pic of your engine I thought I was seeing extra parts until I realized the shop or persons doing the engine dropped the entire rear subframe and suspension included
While removing the gearbox and engine ? That must be a race thing ? Are the body
bushings going metal or RS too ? Thanks Bert

I believe FVD use Schrick C2/C4 cams and custom Mahle 102 pistons, if so I have essentially identical engine (not from FVD) in my 1995 and it made 290 HP at rear wheels when not broken in yet. Nice torque curve, easy to drive.

That is very much possible. I know that the cams are more aggressive than the stock cams.
The piston top is different from the stock pistons so the compression ratio is higher too.
290 hp at rear wheels sounds good to me! Especially with the added torque and the short ratio gearbox I'm putting in.

My pistons looked like the FVD pistons. One advantage of having them made is using GT3 102 mm piston rings which I believe are lower friction than the thick ones on factory 3.8 kits I have seen. My compression is stock; bad gas here in SoCal.

Schrick cam greater exhaust duration increase than intake duration. Lobe center slightly tighter. Lift significantly more than RS.

I also used their valve spring and Ti retainer kit - all nice stuff.

In addition to the power kit I also opted for the valve kit with stiffer springs and Ti retainers. I also bought Carillo rods, for insurance as per Bill's recommendation.

Here's one of the pistons:

Pistons look identical to mine Below are the plans for my pistons, reduced compression height for 130 mm rod, 22 mm wrist pin.

They do!
According to FVD the CR is 11.8:1 Isn't stock CR 11.3:1 ?

Yes stock is 11.3:1 but that is nominal. Usually really around 10.9 or 11:1 I have found. Mine are at 11:1 when measured. The piston crown height can be specified for more compression.

Lucky dog, indeed. How many laps did it take before you felt like you "knew" the track?

Do the FVD pistons use the tapered wrist pins?

If so they are the same as the ones I have in mine, also 11.8 for use w/ the narrow 993rods

My FVD Set did use the tapered wrist pins and were left and right specific.
