Default Alternator or Fan Issues

Im still fairly new to the 993 world so have a few questions.

1) I believe my fan belt was overtightened causing an whirring noise from my alternator area. I can hear it at idle and it gets louder when RPM's go up. I have the RS fan pulley so Im fairly certain that the only bearing that could be causing it is the alternator. Is this correct?

2) With the RS pulley conversion the fan should not spin freely from the alternator shaft. Essentially you need to tighten the 24mm nut so that the fan locks to the shaft. Is this correct?

3) I've removed the alternator/fan belt so I can spin the alternator shaft freely. There is no grinding and it spins very smoothly. Could the alternator bearing still be bad and only show under load?

Any help y'all can provide would be appreciated. I tried search and couldn't find exactly what Im looking for. Hoping to not replace the alternator given all the other stuff I just did but I do want the car running correct.

Thanks
Brian

1. Correct
2. Correct
3. How old is your alternator? You may not be spinning fast enough to reproduce the sound.

Default Alternator or Fan Issues

I just sent my new rebuilt alternator back for an exchange. The bearings are bad and I've only used it 3 months. Getting to the point, the bearings make a very faint "bad" noise when spinning by hand. Very hard to hear. But when under tension and running at speed, they make a whirring sound. When idling, there's a faint inconsistent grinding sound.
