My friend has a e92 M3 and he has these matte black finished exhaust tips.
looks kinda like this:

He doesn't like the black and would prefer them to be polished silver.
Anyone know how these sorts of black finishes can be removed? Would something like brake cleaner do anything or would they need to be sanded?
any input would be good here. He will have to polish them of course, but he would prefer to do as little damage to the metal as possible.
Thanks.

Most of the black tips are ceramic coated... I did it once with a fin grit flapper wheel on a grinder, could do the same with a flapper wheel on a drill.

I wonder what those tips are made of? If they are stainless, then you can definitely strip and polish. I would use a relatively fine grit and work into finer grits, eventually on a polishing wheel. There may be chemical strippers as well.
If they are plain steel, then you might pick up corrosion once stripped so they may need to be clear coated.
Any idea if a magnet sticks?
Cheers,
Mike
