I noticed that mine was split shortly after buying the car. So I pulled it out and flung it in the trash. Been using a funnel ever since.

Just checked mine and it still looks like new. I like it because I am a klutz and without it I would probably spill oil everywhere and I'm not about to carry around a oily funnel in my car. I will just check it every time I check the oil (every other fuel fill up).

I did an oil change today on my 993.
Everything was fine until I was on my tenth quart of Mobil 1.
As I looked down the oil filler spout with a flashlight,
I noticed little bits of plastic stuck to the sides.
I put my finger in there and pulled on the plastic cap that holds a spring
only to find the spring had a plastic cover on it that had deteriorated and had gone into the oil.

Thank you for posting this.

Checked mine tonight and nothing there. Previous owner likely trashed it when it started to fall apart.
I will say thats a pretty tight spot it collapses into. Does a new one stay put when you remove the oil filler cap or does it tend to extend outward on its own once the oil fill cap is removed?

I used mine once to add oil and since it was split at several of the coils, guess where the oil went! Now use a funnel that I keep in a ziplock bag along with a spare quart and a shop rag.

You might want to rethink that....there are ways to deal with that funnel (if you really have to haul it around all the time). Just sayin'.
