Default Speaking Of Insurance--Sac Porsche Shop Burns

Gone for the weekend--in Sac--and I don't see any chatter about PM Porsche going up in flames Friday AM.

Numerous early cars--the owner's '58 Speedster + '73 RSR (yes, RSR that I think he's owned 25+ years), at least one '73 RS, and numerous longhoods of which some were S's.

http://www.sacbee.com/2014/07/18/656...acramento.html

I've got some photos that came to me privately, but suffice it to say that this has got to eclipse even the railroad/transporter accident in Ventura a few years ago.

So......insurance, appraisals, blah, blah, blah.

(Sometimes wish these were still just $30K cars that we had a heavy dose of self-insurance on.)

Wow, that must be devastating to the owner of the shop. Glad nobody was hurt.

Had a friend take her car to a dealer who couldn't figure out how to do the work on her 86 original Andial 930 with 12k on the clock. They sent it to an indy. His shop went up in flames. Totalled by insurance. Ext. was "toast", but all wiring was fine. After a gut, new int. complete refresh is looks and smells better than before. Sad to see this.

^The "before" of that 930 looks like it's in showroom condition compare to this fire.

RSR 2.8 #1008 was the most original-unmolested '73 RSR on the planet. It was destroyed in a fire this weekend in California. No one was hurt and I know 'it's just a car' but this is very depressing to me.

Too funny (sad?) to see that ducktail. Before the Porsche Parade in Monterey--and I'm talking the 20+ year ago event--John somehow found out I had an original RS ducktail laying around. He was going to paint it just to show the car, then put it back to whatever color I needed. Never happened, as I guess he found one to buy. Shame I still don't have it to help with the RSR restoration.

Wow that looks like quite the fire. Those cars are burnt to a metallic crisp? Do they know the cause? Is arson suspected?

What a loss to the global P-Car community as well as to the owner of this shop and those prized cars.

I remember looking at that RSR in detail when it was featured in Panorama - probably 15 years ago. I remember thinking at the time - that's probably a $200K car...

With today's values - wow. What a bummer.

Forget prices - it's just a loss.

That is awful.

Have they determined the fire's origin?

We had this just down the road from me two years ago. It was sickening to see the burnt out shells.

I know it's just some cars. But wow, those are SOME cars. Original and unrestored RSR? Can't imagine you'd need more than one hand to count the number of cars that meet that description.

Sad.

It's terrible. I've driven by the corner probably about 100 times. Crazy.

Truly sad. But glad no one was hurt. I'm sure this won't be the last we see of this car. She'll be lovingly restored and will have an interesting story to add to her chapter.

Hmm... Interesting point, you may have something there and it is not without precedent. In another 10 years, in its rebuild it might be noted that - "..was one of several historically significant cars that suffered damage in a devastating Porsche garage fire many years ago".

Sounds much better than - "Teenage son wrapped the car around a telephone pole".
