Default oil return line, how do you remove?

1996 993 C4S

Looking at the engine oil drain, move towards the front of the car. Beside one of the oil return tubes is a oil return line (or supply, not certain). It is a 32mm union into the engine case. There is a oil line attached to that union. I need to replace the crush washer due to an oil leak there. How do you remove the union? The spanner wrench does not fit and it looks like a CV shaft style impact socket will be too large. Im having trouble finding a thin walled 32mm socket. Ill post a pic in a minute.

I ended up "making" a spanner for it... Started with a cheapo 32mm spanner from harbor freight and ground the "fingers" down until they would fit between the various protrusions.

My thinking is: I doubt you will find one off the shelf. A wrench for a 32mm bolt would need to be able to take a massive amount of torque and thus will not be very thin.

I ordered a 32mm socket from sears.com. will be here tomorrow. That solves removing and re-installing the fitting. Now I need a cheap wrench to modify so I can connect the oil line. Thanks for the idea, heading to HF in the am to get a cheapo

Agree, the grinder is your friend. Be careful on the tightening, shop manual says use heat to remove, and bond in place with Loctite 270, tightening torque 70 Nm (52 ft lbs). The seal is a A22 x 27.

Cheers,

Default help! part number??

Does anyone know the part number for the union shown in the pic in post #2 above? Ie, the 32mm nut / union that connects the oil return line to the engine case. Also, if there is a crush washer as mentioned by the OP, what's the # on that part? Mine has come loose and looks like there's no crush washer. Lots of oil & dirt protecting the case from road hazards however...

I've looked through Katalog and my best guess is on illustration 101-05:

position 23
part # 999 136 044 09
union, M22 X 1,5

position 21
part # 900 123 011 30
sealing ring, for 96-

Anyone know if I'm on the right track? If so, looks like section 10.01.37 in the manual applies (to parts 20 & 21 on the diagram in the manual).

Mucho TIA!

cheers/bc
