They are Girodisks, available from several places, I purchased from Craig, Rennstore. ~$1000 replacements are in the $350 area, the hope is that they will last a lot longer than the oems.

Others are using a much cheaper alternative, Colmans bolted to stock tt hats, preliminary reports are good for these too.

Which is Sonnen in San Rafael. Which should be the same prices as Sunset. Except for those of us in CA. Or maybe not.........we Californians DO pay Use Tax on all of our out-of-state purchases, right?

Not off hand, If a certain stealthy browser doesn't chime in I'll ask.

This is a very interesting thread........ meaning most likely going to cost me more money . Seeing I'm just about to install a full RS brake kit, I have a couple of questions about the Girodiscs.
Bill, when you say "~$1000 replacements are in the $350 area" are you talking about getting a replacement disc and reusing the orig hat. Is that $350 per disc or $350 for 2?
I know these are lighter but can't remember how much, any ideas.
Matt or Bill, have either of you had these on the track?

Tks Guys,

Cheers,
Geoff

Wrightwood Racing makes adapters for 322 or 332 mm Alcon discs on a 993, anyone familiar with these?

~$350 ea including hardware, they supplied new caliper bolts too

they are only a bit lighter, but that isn't the draw

Guys that track these hard will go through stock tt/RS front rotors every 20 or so days, they crack long before they wear out. I'm hopeing for 40 or more days from these.

ps: how's your project coming?

Geoff,

Picking my rotors up this weekend - they took longer than expected from the manufacturer. Per Bill's comment, wanted to have them for the end of the track season because my OEMs were cracked >5mm from the holes and getting a little too close for comfort to the outer surface.

2 pounds lighter is nice, but I bought them mainly for longevity and the floating rotor.

Brembo makes both a 355 and 380 mm X 32 mm floating disc kits using their F50 caliper for the 993. The F50 is almost identical to the big red - the critical dimensions are the same, but it takes a different pad. Looking at the diagrams for the disc, and measuring a Big Red pad, it appears that the pad is 5 mm too tall, but I have been told that the F50 pad is actually taller so should work, but I am not sure and would not try unless I viewed and compared the parts.

Anyway, if Brembo would sell these discs and hats separately from their complete kit all it seems it would take is some spacers under the stock Porsche calipers to use them.

The Brembo rings with Hardware are more expensive than the Giro rings, the last set I bought for another car that were 320mm x 28mm were over $350 each, I would suspect that the 355 or 380 x 32 would be alot more expensive.

You then need to source the hats which is another issue.

Agreed, and Brembo for sure have to agree to sell the hats when what they really want to sell are complete kits.

However, if the duty cycle for the larger discs were long enough, it might work out in terms of time and money.

I've seen a Brembo 355x32 kit that consists of a floating drilled 355x32 rotor w/ an extension adapter to push the stock front caliper out away from the axle. I didn't take any pics, Brian you out there?

Here is a link to Brembo Caliper "B" & "H" type drawings, compare to a Porsche "Big Red" type caliper and you will find offset, bolt centers, overall length and height identical to Big Red. These are called "F50" calipers by some - I don't know difference in the H & B caliper, drawing is same. Pad different?? http://www.brembo.com/CatalogoHPGT/D...5Cfamily_B.pdf
