Default road trip - 2600 miles in seven days

Just got back from a long road trip; Seattle -> Southern Oregon -> Berkeley -> LA -> Berkeley -> Southern Oregon -> Seattle, all in the span of seven days. Spent the first night in Merlin, Oregon, which is near Grants Pass. Had a very interesting night to say the least, got no sleep. Spent the second night visiting friends at Cal Berkeley. It was my first time in Berkeley... needless to say I love that town. Then spent two days in LA, decided I was over LA and headed back to Seattle. Along the way back I stayed in Berkeley again, then camped out along the Rogue River in Merlin, Oregon. Enjoy the photos

That looks like an awesome trip...I'd love to do that too...but I doubt my pregnant wife and three children would enjoy it as much as me

Thatcher,

Are we to assume that the ladies are responsible for your lack of rest?

Great pics

Next time you're in L.A., give me a shout. I can guarantee you won't be "over" L.A. in 2 days

On the Pelican 911 forum, there is a ducktail thread where somebody posted a pic of your car in Cali.

Looks like a great trip! Glad you had a good time and thanks for the photos.

That looks like quite the trip there Thatcher! The woman riding in the back must be some flexible contorsionist to be able to weave her body around the roll cage!

You may be right.. it's actually a long story, but LA is just not the right place for me. I like Seattle for now, but I could also see myself living in San Fran or Berkeley.

no.. I was alone that night, camping in Southern Oregon. I was woken up in the middle of the night from what I believe to have been a car going off the road about 50 yards from me.. then a sheriff came, and a tow truck.. and an animal was saying what sounded to be "wow" right outside my tent. I ended up not being able to fall back asleep, so I just hit the road and kept driving until I needed a short nap at 7AM. Again, picked a bad place to camp.. I woke up to cattle being very territorial and chasing me out of their pasture. It was actually a bit of a scary moment, one of the cows was not at all happy that I was there, I had to run away with my tent in hand.

Nice pics Thatcher. If you ever want to sell the wheels that you're currently running please let me know!
I thought you were moving back east?

I think I have watched too many Criminal Minds episodes to go camping in a remote location!

Thanks for sharing, great pix. Just love road trips in the 993! Now you've got me thinking about a New England-Eastern Canada loop before the snow flies!
