Default USA vs ROW 993 cabrio bodyshells

Hi

Does anyone know wether USA spec cabrio bodyshells differ to European / UK spec ones ?

I'm specifically interested in the rear seat area & the mounting points for the US spec rear seats / seatbelt etc .

There appears to be 6 mounting points on the firewall/trans tunnel area for the USA 3-point belt seat frame. I'm am trying to find out if these mouting points are specific to US spec cars ?

here is my UK thread, with photos of a UK car

http://www.911uk.com/viewtopic.php?p=539034#539034

and this thread documents the US spec seat frame etc

Hot -

Thats correct, the rear seat frame is bolted in 6 places. They are under the carpet. The seatbelts (female end) are not attached to the seat frame. Not an expert but I don't think there is a difference in US / ROW in this area. The seat frame has to bolt in there. Thats my car in your UK threrad.

Hope this helps

There are threaded holes on the tunnel for the inner (anchor end) seat belt bolts - you can see one of them in Grahams photo.

thanks for the replies

It is the 6 bolt holes I'm interested in , the ones that mount the frame to the body. It makes sense that all cabrio's should have these bolt holes, but from the pics I have seen of the UK cabrio I'm not so sure ??

Four are on top at the rear and two are in the front - you can feel the bolt heads under the carpet. Go to the DIY Submission Forum and you will see the DIY Rear Seat Delete Install I did a few years ago.

Hope this helps

thanks for the offers, but I'm not needing a guide etc yet .

I would like to fit the US spec rear 3 point belts to my RHD UK cabrio ..... I'm trying to determine if this is going to be an easy job ( eg the mounting points for the frame are currently there ) or wether it is going to be a case of having to modify the UK spec body to suit ? As you can see from this photo, it looks like the 6 mounting points aren't there

For those of you who have done the rear seat delete .... are the threaded holes in the bodyshell for the seat frame captive nuts ?

Hi
I would also like to fit US rear seat belts to my 993 cab. In this regard I am trying to determine if this will be a complex job or not. Please let me know how you got on doing this mod. Are the mounting points for the frame actually there or do I have to modify my European spec bodyshell to suit the US seat belt tower?

Hi,

The search led me to this thread - I know hot66 finished the job and it looks great (I've pm'd him this question).

Does anyone have a rear seat tower and belts for sale, or a source for the parts (including the metal frame)? Marble Grey if I was being fussy, but I can re-trim if required.

The 3 point conversion in the UK is for a static belt with the third point on the outside - but you need to detach and go through the zip in the rear window when the hood is down - the US inertia centre tower is a much better solution - if I can find one of course!!!

Thanks for any assistance.

I asked this question to Colin at Ninemeister.

He said that you need to weld the support in place?

I think this is part number 993.803.075.01

Take a look at http://www.einmaligparts.com/Mountin..._p_172305.html

Think it's part 23.

I would like to do the same conversion so if anyone can chime in would be appreciated?

I think the fitting is going to be doable, by additional plates and bolts or welding - it's getting the frame, tower unit and belts that I think is going to be the problem. Thanks for the link, not sure whether that price is for a group of parts or a specific part - I'll drop them a line.

Tan leather tower on ebay at the moment, no metal frame though...

Very annoying that the ROW cars just have lap belts, not very helpful for front facing boosters.

Cheers,

David

I looked at this option...

Not sure if it would work with the roof open?

or these??

The only place the "top tether" could attach on those would appear to be the rear deck - so obstructing the roof that goes behind the seats I think.

Come on US folks without kids, time to rear seat delete and sell myself and jotaking your throw aways.....
