Okay, so, yeah, I'm a 'planner'. I was thinking about where to get my 993 serviced and checked out ideally somewhere in the Bay Area on the peninsula.
It looked like RMG was a serious contender. But it also looks as though they're no longer in business...at least the web site isn't up and running. Anyone know if this is the case?
If it is, I was thinking about Rector, where I've had past good experiences with my 996 and 997 and have a SA that I like and trust.
Seems as though there are too many bad things said about Carlsen, or?
Any other recent recommendations for servicing a 993 in the Peninsula / South Bay?
Thanks!
JD

OP, not to offend you but cheap and Porsche can rarely be used in the same sentence. It sounds like you are looking for an independent, and the time-tested rule is that you generally get what you pay for. I use RMG and they are top-notch. They are not cheap and don't advertise themselves as such - caveat emptor. FWIW, cheap is relative - shop rate at most european car dealers in the South Bay (smythe, land rover sj, stevens creek bmw, ... audi) is $185 - $200 / hr.

+1 for the Stable in SF
Also I've had good experience with Flintworks in Campbell. It's a small shop and Alden, the owner, is a Porsche trained tech that formerly worked as a tech at a dealer. I've only had him work on my 986 Boxster though, so hard to say about air-cooled knowledge.

Since you're in Alameda then Bauer Porsche in Oakland (expensive) or John @ Valhalla in Lafayette (reasonable). Both are very good.
Nothing against RMG if you want to drive over an hour thru 880 traffic for an oil change.

I used Bauer back in the day when I lived in the Oakland Hills though and quite liked Lars and the gang.

DOH! Then I guess you have your pick of RMG or Rennshop. Never been to either but RMG comes up here regularly with good reviews.
