Question Upgrade to factory Xenon / part number question

I plan to upgrade from the regular US headlight to the factory xenon light with European spec. I got the headlights already. What is missing are the ballast / power supply units. Can anybody help me with the part numbers for these. I also assume that the units are the same for US xenon headlights as well as for European versions. Also, may somebody any idea if the cabling will be an issue?

Finally, I guess it won't be an problem to use European headlights in the US as they never check this during the inspection. Any comment about this.

Thanks for your feedback and comments in advance.

I'm talking about all the stuff in the middle of the picture between the 2 headlights.

Again - thanks for feedback.

Geolab,

Thanks a lot for this information. This really helps. One question, the listed part numbers for the headlight in the description show 993 631 051 02 as part number for headlight left. This are the part no for the US version? The part no at my headlight is 993 631 031 02. I believe that the difference may results in the fact that this is the European version.

Thanks for feedback.

yes, euro version and US version. If ever, to shift versions, all you have to do is change the front lenses, sold everywhere including the dealer

the harness clamps stickers etc, buy them from the dealer.
For the ballasts, you either have a close friend at bosch who can
supply you with those, or ebay.
@ the dealer, those are expensive, made by bosch in czec republic

Hi there - you posted something that caught my eye.

I have an OEM set of left and right Xenon headlights for my 993 - but trouble is, I bought a USA set - and I have a RHD car. Are you saying I can swap the headlight lenses and all is good??????

I just did this exact thing.

Porsche part number for the ballast/control unit is 993 631 193 02; Bosch part number is 1 307 329 023

You can find these control units in lots of 90's and early 2000's Mercedes, BMW, and Audi (that's what I did from a salvage yard and saved a bunch)

One thing - I did have some problems with fitting the control units as the OEM wiring harness I purchased from Porsche had connectors with the slot on the wrong side so I had to buy some new Bosch connectors. Not a big deal. You could also notch the connectors to fit the slot but I chose to do it 'right.'

Good luck with this!

6 years later...

The headlight lens swap was only necessary for the right part numbers, but both outside lenses are basically the same.
So with US outside lenses, you are good to go in a RHD...with a little fiddling
There is a metal tab inside the lenses under the bulb, that you could slide counter-clockwise and this gesture shifts the angled upside shade to the left of the car, instead of the right of the car for LHD
Then it would be better to go to a workshop to align the lenses on a control machine.
If you want to align yourself, place the car at exactly 10 meters from a wall.
Take the exact height of your headlights from middle of lens to floor.
Mark that height on the wall 10 meters away.
Mark an horizontal line 10 centimeters ABOVE your headlight height mark on the wall
Your headlights would draw an horizontal line on the wall.
Adjust your headlight beam horizontal line to fall on the 10 centimeters mark on the wall
For your Right driver lens:
The upward going beam angle should tilt upwards at middle of car.
For your Left driver lens:
Beam should tilt up shy left of the car.
But still, an electronic machine controls and adjusts better
