Default Cracked tail light lens. WTF!!!

Why are people such idiots?

I just noticed that some a**hole must have backed into my right (passenger) side tail light and put a small (yet extremely noticeable to me) crack in the lens. The light still works but I am extremely pissed right now.

Anyway, if someone has a spare tail light lens I would much appreciate it, or some direction on where to buy one that doesn't look brand new.

TIA

Bob

How is it cracked? Is it horizontal? My drivers side taillight was cracked when I bought the car. Upon closer inspection, there appears to be a very small recession in the plastic which creates a weak point eventually causing the lens to crack and moisture to enter the lens assembly. If you see no other sighs of impact, this may be your cause...

Gordo993:
Yes, it's a horizontal crack about four inches long. No other signs of impact.

I don't suppose it's possible to just replace the lens? I assume I'll need to buy the whole assembly.

I've already started another thread (see WTB Tail Light Assembly). I'd like to find a used one that might match the rest of the lights a bit better than a brand new one.

mine had the crack too but on the drivers side. Looked like wear and tear, not an accident. Was that way when purchased, but a new one is on the way thanks to Chris here on the forums

ask around on RL, lots of people have spares that are taking up room.

I got two from different listers who had them laying around and were willing to give them up to me cheap

mine had a considerable amount of standing water in it when I got it. I removed the assy and shook out all the water. Every time I washed the car, I'd tape off the crack with elec. tape to keep the water out.

I have one , to bad I'm on the other side of the pond. Probably better to wait a bit to see if you find one on the right side as it costs a small fortune to send parts your way (strange how shipping is much cheaper from the US/CA than to ?)

Thanks Akerlie for the offer. The whole assembly is only $115 so perhaps it is a bullet I ultimately need to bite. In the meantime I'm saving my pennies for a new/ good used rear bumper cover and a front / rear respray.

The EBAY seller (carparts) has brand new HELLA units, OEM for aroun $80.00. They ship quick and good to work with. No affiliation etc

Where exactly did you find the whole assembly for $115? I thought the tail lights were around $100 each and the center reflector was around $300...

IF anyone has a center section in decent shape they are wanting to get rid of, I know someone who would take it
